Homer 2, I like it.

I will probably build another one someday. Chevelle's take me about 2 years and almost 40K. Homer will be done in less than 1 year and for about $15k. Way more affordable than cars, and more fun to build too.

Yeah I kinda dig the extra letters. Wife hates em. She says there isn't even an I anywhere in original CHEVROLET script. Oh well, For this incarnation it staying. For now, at least.

Well Fellas,

Yesterday was a busy day. Woke up at 5:00AM (3:00AM AZ time)in Nebraska at my Son's home. Showered and said goodbyes and got on the road at 6:00. Drove 2.5 hours across Nebraska and dropped off the rental car. Waited 2 hours at the airport and flew 2 hours home to Arizona. Had a little business to attend to for about 1.5 hours. Went and got my bodyman (car issues) and got to work on Homer's tailgate around 3:00PM. About 7:30 shot the letters on the tailgate and a stripe across the back of the cab to hide the line where the tan meets the white. Took my bodyman home and crashed.
Got up this morning and peeled off the tape and here's what ole Homer looks like with his gate painted, stripe in place, and front bumper (painted body color) hung in place.
Kinda burned out today so not expecting much progress, but wanted to share how my "vision" of a widened gate turned out. Not perfect by any means, but then again, Ole Homer don't care.

Thanks A.D. I also think I much prefer the body color. the dark color just did not do it for me.

Thanks Flashed. Yeah, I agree. I think ole Homer is starting to feel like a STUD again. Hopefully within about 30 days he will be hauling it down the highway with the wind in our face.

Zane M. Thanks man, I really appreciate that. I am really starting to feel that way too.

To tell the truth, for a long time I was kinda crossing my fingers that what was in my head would actually look good when finished. Once I bought Homer and stripped off the rotten motor home, I stood back and said to myself "self, what the heck were you thinking". Got a bag full of lemons so "start trying to make some lemonade". Not home free yet, but I am starting to feel that it will turn out ok.

My goal now is to have a cool hot rod running down the road for under 15K and less than 1 year of build time. That's less than half what it cost me to do my last Chevelle, and half as long of a build, so I am pretty stoked about that.

Im ashamed to say that my 1 ton flatbed is still sitting in the same spot at the back lot of the bodyshop .Even worse is my nicely restored 72 fleetside is still sitting inside same shop as they cant get the heat to work on the new Vintage Air unit .Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Looks good. I think the front bumper looks great body color. Go with some polished stainless bolts in it and chrome grill trim to set it off with the wheels. My two cents worth. Tailgate is cool. Gives Homer his own brand! Kinda like Survivor mixed with Chevrolet.

Finally read through this whole thread to see how Homer got to be where he is. Seems like more of an odyssey than any of his prior travels! I thought you had just made a standard stepper bed say "chevivrolet" and I still thought it was cool. Now it's awesome. Which differential do you have on the truck?

Thanks slick copper. I already painted the bolts body color as well. got the trim out being polished as we speak.

Elliot949, Thanks man. Yeah it would look cool towing Raymond. I got a 67 Nova altered wheelbase in the alternate tinkerings threads that would look great being towed to the drags.

unbrokenchain. Thanks man. yeah ole Homer has been getting the business for the last 9 months. I bought a 79 1 ton dually chassis and pulled the front crossmember and rear end out and installed them in Homer. 411 gears are better than the 537 it had originally. The rear end is a 14 bolt full floater.

Sounds like the old saying of "nice guys finish last" might apply. Might have to sit down with them and get a commitment of "when" your truck will get some love? If no commitment is forthcoming, might be time to take it to a shop that will "getter dunn".

Car started life as a 4 door. Now it has two short doors, 496, glide/brake, 456 9 inch w-spool, single seat in the center of the car back where the back seat was.

Yeah, I think it will look cool being towed by Homer. Maybe paint it the same color?

I have the 63 C10 prostreet, the 66 GMC, the 62 C10, a 63 GMC and the Dually... I just can't do them all...
