Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

on another note, i am looking at hood hinge plans and i am considering just modifying the factory cowl mounted part and welding the top of the earlier style hinge to this one to make it bolt to the early hood ? I think that should work and i also think that this would be a pretty simple way to solve the earlier truck hood hinge problem , couldnt you just cut this hole in the early cowl for this hinge to sink into and bolt it on ? (with some reinforcement ?)

I like this idea. I think that area of the cowl is similar enough that you could adapt the later hinge to the earlier cowl without much trouble.

Just for my info, do your tubs have to be modified to clear the hinges bolted to the fender of the earlier squares (73-80)?

yes they would have to have a pocket built into them to clear the factory hinges

Is your notch wide enough to incorporate exhaust, bag mounts and shock mounts?
Looks tiny to me.

I agree. Its too narrow, and too tall. You dont need that much notch unless your planning on dragging frame with 24's.

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

i am trying to keep everything as tight as possible to save all of the cabin room i can, the notch is 3 and 3/4 inches wide, the rear bag and shock mounts will probably hang off the back a little

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

i am going to go back and re-look at all this the height is probably going to stay the same according to my calculations i will have 1 1/2 left which i plan on build and adjustable bump stop to add to that area to keep it from laying out if something happens when my wife is driving it ...since it is hers ! I hadnt thought much about making it wider but with your guys input i think i might add an 1 1/2 to it to make sure i have room for my bag and shock mounts ! Thats why i put stuff up here, thanks guys for your input !

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

Since your Scotts stuff has the 4-link bars inboard,... I would mock it up first prior to making the notch.
Keep the 4-link bars parallel to the ground at ride height is going to be a small issue.
(with that much kick to the frame, in front of the axle).
Your front 4-link mount may be up in the floor, depending on where your ride height is set.
And that depends on where full dump is to lay flat with your tires.

With the 4-link tacked in place, you will easily be able to see where the cross bars need to be for the bag mounts and shock mounts.
This will dictate where the sides of the notch need to be.
You also need added height for the center section of the rearend.
