Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures

Found the site late last night so I will post up a little more information now.

Its a 1964 GMC Suburban with the V6 305 in it. It has approximately 16,000 miles on it. It was owned by a fire department that was nearby and driven by the Chief as his vehicle. My dad bought it from the fire department and has been storing it since before I was born (I am 37 now). We have almost all the parts for it. Once we get it back together my dad plans to use it as a daily driver and to pull my boat.

The plan for now is to leave it as original as possible other than all the work we are going to have to do on the interior. I am going to start looking for that cap soon

Still a work in progress. Next steps are anti-wrap bars (getting a little axle wrap under hard acceleration), headliner, carpet in the front, finish the sound system, and finally, upgrade the T-case to an NP205.

Here is a picture of the bed wood, I used Trex composite decking. I used the "fascia board" size, instead of the deck boards. The fascia board is 7.25" wide and about 5/8" thick.

Speaking of under the hood, please share more pics when possible including some under the hood shots. I have always wanted a 4x4 Burb and your Burb has set the bar very high!

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures

I have posted the same photos in one of my other threads, but figured that I would add to this one.

Picked this 63 up in Idaho at the foot of the Tetons a few weeks ago.

It has the original six cylinder and a poo poo glide.

I've already put in an order for a complete new chassis, will be running wide whites on steel 18s. Plan is to lay frame using bags.

I have an extra (long story) Cadillac 472 and a T400 with a switch pitch converter, both of which have been rebuilt and will replace the six cylinder.

Just ordered one of Captain Fab's MC booster mounts.

The only thing that I have done is weld up the hole in the stock gas tank. I need to make a new support strap as the last half a century plus was not kind to the factory one.

I did find a hood off a 61 that needs to make it across country - hopefully it is in as good shape as it looks in the photos that were sent to me.

The truck has the barn doors and I'd prefer to have the wagon doors but mine doesn't seem to have the correct bottom piece. So we will see.

Nice score and what a great example to start with. Please share more details regarding "New Chassis"?

Thanks, I like it.

The chassis is being built by Choppin Block down in Fresno CA.

All new everything, bags & disks all around, power rack & pinion box, Nine inch rear end

I went back and forth on fabbing my own chassis (I have access to a laser cutter and the design software) but as I ALWAYS under estimate the amount of work and time these things take, I just want to get it done a little (a lot) quicker!

Understood, I hope we get to see a build thread in your future.

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures

Here is my new project. I picked it up in the beginning of September. 65 suburban with a 71' 350 and a 3spd automatic. It runs and drives as it sits but I plan on bagging it so it will lay out.

Thanks. My boys and I are pumped to dig into it. It came with the first and third row. The first row is in pretty rough shape but it works for now. I would love to find another third row and face it to the back.

It's been a 5-6 years since we posted up in this thread, it's changed a bit since then.
