Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Almost ready to start the torsion box, rocker panels, floor panels, rear bed panel, etc replacement process. I understand most of the process- leave top installed, install new body mounts, line up all door, tailgate, etc. Have purchased almost all replacement weld in Triplus parts from Wes at Heartbeat.com Has anyone in northern Mi. done this on a 1st. Gen K5? Just sending a message out there to someone near me in Mi that might be willing to help me out with my project. It's now 2012 and I need to move forward, I have a huge stash of parts ready to go on. I just need someone close willing to help with fabrication, anybody?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Spent some time going through the "pile" of resto parts tonight. Lined up all the new poly body mounts from Jim Carter classic parts, the bolts, shims, washers, and nuts from LMC. Looks like I have what I need to start to replace the body mounts before I start the process of welding in the replacement panels. I think this is the first step in the floor/torsion box weld in process right?

Yep, install your body mounts, make sure your doors fit the bedsides, and rockers. Start by putting all the factory shims back where they were. Don't be afraid to change them if things aren't fitting quite right.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Just ordered up a set of DIY4X EZ-INCH's for the 14bolt rear. Thinking I might need them when the shackle flip goes in to help center the axle. Looked at ORD's and seemed like DIY4X's was the same setup for less money. Not sure if I would need to run some degree shims also? Thinking not, because going with weld on spring perches anyway. Thought's?

Are you going to be doing a High angle driveline or CV shaft soon? If so dont bother welding up your perches until you get your shaft. The driveline side has to point right at the t-case

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Yes Sir, I am planning on running HAD shafts frt and rear. Thank you for that tip! Hoped to slap in some sort of stock 1 ton shafts for temporary, and swap in the HAD stuff when funds allow. As soon as spring comes, hope to get the 1 tons in and mocked up.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Anybody got pic's of a 14 bolt with the ez-inch installed? Got the weld on rear springs perches,ez-inches,upper u-bolt plates, all from DIY4X. Also the DIY4X shackle flip, think I have it all figured out. Just looking for some 1st gen pic's before I get started!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Still trying to mock up the 14 bolt weld on rear spring perches, the ez-inch's, and the upper u-bolt plates, all from DIY4X. The center bolt that came with the ez-inch kit does not fit right in the holes of the weld on perches, I can make them fit but just wondering why they do not fit right? Also, the two bolts DIY4X sent with are kinda short for the weld on perch. Also, checked the drivers/left side stock spring perch of my used Dana 60 front axle and the center bolt hole is egged out big time. Went and ordered up a new one from Kert at DIY4X. Anybody have any info on this,or pic's to help me out here?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

3rd pic down on my thread.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=430008

Mount the shackle flips, bolt in the leaf springs , tighten everything down and bolt on the axle while keeping the perches "unwelded".

put the weight of the truck on the axle, then rotate up the pinion until it points at the back of the t-case. (make sure your u-bolts are tight for safety sake)
then tear it all apart and weld them on.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Just ordered up 2 more replacement panels from WES at classic heartbeat. Got the front lower quarter patch panels, just behind the ds and ps doors coming. Still trying to figure out why the new center bolts that came with my DIY4X EZ-inches don't fit right into my DIY4X weld on rear spring perches for the 14 bolt 1 ton axle? The center bolt is designed to go through the spring pack and set into the hole in the spring perch right? I guess I just don't get it? I understand the weld on spring mounts have 3 holes in them to help center the axle, but the spring center bolt does not fit right in any of the holes in the weld on mounts? Any ideas?
