Every little bit helps, but it's looking good.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
No problem!! I love those trucks that most people consider "ugly" but I think it's awesome and can't wait to see it done. Again you're doing a great job on it......

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
A while back I showed a pic of something that I would never have thought they would have back in the 50s
A 4wd in/out indicator light and switch..I tested the switch and never could get a good reading with a meter..so in trying to keep as much originality that I can ,I tried to salvage the switch.. It was crimped together so I used a screwdriver and pried it apart..unbelievably clean on the inside.. And the problem was easily seen...the contact tab and spring was out of the holder...I sanded the contacts and put it back together..works flawless now...

Nice save. My first car was a 77 Scout. I can still see the 4 WHEEL DRIVE dash light in my mind. Good stuff.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
After some beadblasting on the shift indicator switch, it uncovered this sweet logo.."old school" delco remy..
After some googling I found a part number for this switch...delco Remy 1997915 d853.. Gm used this as a brake light switch in the 50s...and theres still some nos one out there... And some IH logo bolts

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Another project off the list...the inner fender had a hump in the lower portion where the old steering box crossed over the top of the frame...the sharpie mark is about where the hump center needs to be..
.with the new steering the location moved forward a few inches...so I cut out a section of the panel and moved the hump forward about 1-1/2"...had to cut it in 5 pieces to work around the rib..i shortened the rib a inch or so and fabbed a filler for one spot...I'll blast it ,epoxy, and filler and it'll be good with painting and undercoating

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Also finished up repairing the trans tunnel...the edges on both side was rotted out...cut out the cancer and made new lip for it...used my metal brake to fold the lip , and a piece of 3in pipe to make the transition radius...and the shrinker/stretcher to finish off the double radius...I still need to finish off the shifter holes but I'm calling it a night.....
I just did a quick fix on this...the tunnel is very thin...after I get it all done I may go back and make a whole new tunnel for it out of 16ga...maybe... Before and after pics...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Another small job outta the way...had to come up with something to hold the steering column in the firewall..found the boregson firewall swivel.....and of course the IH oddball steering column is 2-1/8"..
they only have 3 sizes.17/8",2",2-1/4"...i started to just get the 2" swivel and bore it out but they were 6 months backordered..so I went with the 2-1/4" swivel pn909005....had to make a bushing to make up the difference...I think its gonna work pretty good...
