Have you looked at the timing it sounds like the valve is staying open and filling cylinder with fuel. Maybe thats why its not turning over to much fluid pressure in the cylinders. Then the fuel is just leaking by the rings back to the oil pan . As for the fuel in the headers maybe the exhaust valve timing be off is allowing the fuel to drain straight to the exhaust. Just my thought hope you get it fixed.

I got the truck running and drove it home from the shop....when I turned it off it acts like it doesn't want to turn off. That could be it.

Do you have an electric fuel pump? Sounds like it is not shutting off and just continuing to run when the truck is off.

I have an electric pump and had the similiar issue. Kept trying to start it and all it would do is turn over. Come to find out, the coil went out. Fuel went into the cylendars and would not even turn over. Pulled out the spark plugs and gas poured out. Cleaned it all out, changed oil, and replaced coil and runs great again.

I do have an electric pump that is built into my boyd welds tank... But I am running a carb, so I installed a fuel pressure regulator that has a return on it. When I had the EFI on there the pump would run for a few seconds when I turned the key on but now it just runs constantly until I turn the kay all the way off. A friend of mine was saying that is not a big deal because now it will just keep circling thru the return.... That true?

I would think if a cylinder is filling up with fuel then the bypass valve is not bypassing 100%. Maybe there is a siphoning effect going on. Do you have a breather type gas cap? With the gas tank below the level of the engine, there is only a couple of ways that the fuel can get into the cylinders; pressure or suction.

Nice Truck. I am restoring an Orange and White 72 Chevy Shortbed and live right off of McGinnis Ferry Rd in Suwanee. I think my wife and I will swing by the restaurant on 8/18. I wish mine was running so I could bring it with me. Very near starting it but have paint and body to finish etc.

you mentioned you painted your rotors a high heat black paint. well, my rear rotors came in and they have that E coating on them, so i'll have to paint the front for sure now to make them match. what paint did you use? it obviously has to be some kind that comes right off once you brake.

Suspect... I went to home depot and got just got a rustolem gloss paint that pretty much matched the e-coat on the back. It came off pretty smooth and looks great. I was thinking I may need to use a high heat but it this one has worked fine.
Alright.... So here is my latest update!!! I got really hed up with the carb and the older Holley TBI so I went ahead and took the plung and got a brand new Ez-EFI setup. This thing was VERY easy to install and I am pretty pleased with the way it has turned out. I had to run a new return line and extend the feed line. Before I had the fuel lines coming from the rails behind the motor and crossing over the headers, they were pulled off of them but I didnt like how it was run over the top of them. Now they are runing from the rails down the front of the motor and down the frame never crossing the headers. So the EZ-EFI install. The install was pretty simple. But after the install I had a few problems. I wasnt getting any fuel to come out of the injectors. I was blaming the fuel pump, fuel pressure and even the filter. Come to find out... I needed a fuel pressure REGULATOR. Another rookie mistake. The lines had enough pressue puming the gas in the rails and thru the returns but I didnt have any back pressure. So I made a little bracket and installed the regulator and bam... it fired right up. After getting it to run it would never go into the "learning" stage. The hand held kept throwing up a code for the O2 sensor. Problem solved by charging the battery. simple. So I start driving it... hoping it would learn and start running better. But it nevers sounds right and its constantly backfiring. So yeaterday I had the first professional shop look at my truck. Come to find out there were several things that had gone wrong that caused all of these problems.... 1- I must have tightened down the temp sensor too tight and broke it. My temp guage on the EZ-EFI always read 255. The mechanic used a laser temp sensor and said it was 130, replaced that and put the sensos in a better location. One problem down. 2 - The alternator was killing my batter and not giving me the 13v I needed whem my compressors kicked on. We changed the alternator to a more beefy one 110v i think is what it was. That was the most expensive part of the fix but worth the extra money. 3 - one of my plug wires had melted from being too close to the header... replaced that and we fired her up. It was running so much better but not perfect. He adjusted the timing and MAN IT IS AWESOME!!!!. I am so glad I took it in. They were able to find these issues that I was not able to see and they fixed them fast. Now mu truck is running perfect and I can get back to driving her.

Over the next few days I will be detailing the crap out of her to get ready for my car show this Saturday at my restaurant. After I am done cleaning her up I will take a bunch of pictures and post them up. I am pretty excited now that my truck is running so good and everything is working properly. I will drive her for a while and them start working on all the body work.

Looks awesome! How much did the EZ cost you? last time I looked at them at the good guys show it was almost as much as all the upgrades I had put in my engine! Is it worth it? Were you after better gas milage or better perfomance?

For me being a complete rookie to all of these it was a pretty simple install. All it really needs to run is a tack reading, fuel pressure and a good 12v connection. After fixing everything yesterday it runs PERFECT. The throttle responce on it is incredible. I love this thing.

I've been wanting to go to the EZ-EFI, but a friend of mine had lots of problems with his, kept going into the "leap mod", took him awhile to sort it out. So I've been waiting to hear if someone else has switched. I know performance is much better, lets us know if the mileage is any better (if you keep your foot out of it)...Jim
