You know how it is though....you're watching a thread waiting for an update and almost can't wait for new pictures at least I get that way....


Got a little done but between sleeping in, taking care of the girls so my wife could do some shopping for last minute items with the frankenstorm approaching...and then me getting things off the porch or out of the yard and arranging my truck parts outside and moving some in.....not much time for the truck.

Got the power steering brackets on...had to cut down bolts for that and tried to get the new ps pump to work.....but no dice....the hose barb in the back hits the bracket so I'll have to order a different one now.... minor setback but still annoying as all these setbacks add up...

I am appy with how that rust preventer dried (not glossy) so I sprayed two more coats of that on....going to mount the master now and do some other small projects.

I checked hoping that you and Bmerdoc had gotten a ton of stuff done and that there would be a big update, now I'm all sad

Sorry, been dealing with hurricane prep and family activities...no time for the truck. Still waiting on the LCA's so the front re-assembly is on hold till they show up and I can paint them and press the ball joints in....

I did pick up some of the upholstery parts today...but I'm going to re-do the armrests and possibly the visors...not happy with how the visors came out and the armrests don't look good...not the upholstery guy's fault on the armrests although I'm not happy on the visors...

have an idea on the armrests but will have to see if they will work. My truck actually has no provisions for armrests in the doors currently so I can add pretty much any style....

Man ball joints are really expensive, and I know you have made up your mind BUT I hope you dont end up regretting the decision to keep drum brakes especialy on a parts runner that will be doing a ton of in town stop and go driving and probably some towing, you may have terrible trouble with fading and stopping under heavy traffic conditions in the summer when the heat is really a problem. I mean its only money right, I suppose you can always shell out the money for the 1971 Ball joints later it just seems like a really big waste of money in the long run when you can easily get all the original 1971 GM parts you need to convert it over to Disc really really darned cheap, just sayin...
Edit: Just incase your response would be "I already have the ball joints from another project so I didnt have to spend money recently for them specificaly for this truck" Then my response is ok then fair enough.

I appreciate the concern, but I really did think this through

I have the upper and lower ball joints and 4 tie rods I won for $50 off ebay new in box.

I won't be towing with that rear bumper or the drums unless it's a light trailer for parts. And I have a complete 73-up front crossmember if I want to switch to 5 lug and disc.....I just want to use the 6 lug wheels with the patina for now.....

Wow, I just went through page 1-22... Awesome build so far. I am still torn apart in the garage and assembling a parts pile so that when I start I can hopefully keep progress like you have been able to. Good job brother!

Been super busy but I will be working on it some tomorrow and saturday. Have to prepare a 40 minute lesson for Sunday afternoon so I'm working on that too...takes me a looooong time to prepare....want to make sure I have everything backed up correctly About the 15th time I've done this and it doesn't get easier

I have ordered some small parts for the truck. Will get pics when they come in. Got all new suspension since it almost all was going to be new anyways....going to take the center link off and clean up/paint now with the rest of the components...will be all new suspension parts and wheel cylinders and drums at that point...

Did the lower arms come in? We need to get rollin' again! I had to reschedule my spindle/shackle job on that Square for tomorrow and Saturday because of the hurricane.

nope, guy said he'd send tracking but never has....might have to do a paypal claim soon before he drags this out....hope they show up soon though....if not I'll be buying some material and doing it myself using the big welder at the body shop....

They make drop spindles that work with the old style ball joints and tie rod ends. Thats what im running on my 68. Just sayin...

Thanks, but I know about those. That's not the issue though it's the calipers for the discs....they won't work with my rims....they are drum brake only and I don't want to change them at this point....I love the look and the patina and just had bmerdoc put a decent set of tires on them to use.

If I find a killer deal on a set of 20's in 5 lug I will switch to discs at that point and use the -70 style spindles....probably the modular ones so I can run a wider and taller tire and still tuck them in the stock inners
