Thanks guys. Things are finally loosening up a bit with the cash flow and I sold an old trans so the time is right. I'll have pics when it shows up.

I got the sbc to ls adapter plates mounted. I just need to do some trimming and paint them.

I thought I had a better shot. My garage is to full to get a better one. I filled most left the heater. Damn there was a lot of holes. I wonder what they were for. Love that transmission you got. Why don't you just ship it up here.

It's costing me $160 to get it to my house. I just bought a cam, oil pan and new gas tank too. I'll be broke for a while after this, but now I have everything I need to build the engine.

Yep. Thanks for the firewall pic. I just sold a bunch of stuff to afford the new stuff. I ebayed a trans, fender, intake, carb, valve springs and a bunch of other random stuff. Now I have to pack it all and send it. argh.

Craigslist is a pain in the arse sometimes, but I use it for big stuff I really don't want to ship. All the lowball offers get old. I did sell the fender on there to a guy who lives down the street and just bought a 60 apache.

This seems like half the fun on here, I'm a long way from developing skills in fabrication, but I can't stop studying the details. I was staring at the pic of the firewall with the cover on the engine. My first thought was the way the firewall recess gets cut off by the cover, but to widen the recess would loose interior space and probably too much effort for little gain. You've got the skills to cut out all the holes and bumps, and flush weld in a smooth panel...leaving the contour of the fire wall recess, then cut only the holes you need where you want. Give it a smooth stock look, but a couple blisters to aid the recess to engine cover lines would be cool excess. I know I'm not telling you anything you haven't thought of, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the suggestion 65. I have actually been thinking about contouring the firewall to match the profile of the engine cover so it looks more like it came stock from the factory that way. Since there's no distributor I don't need the upper part of the recess any more, so I might come down from the top of the fire wall and square it off or put a little arch a few inches above the engine cover. That will help hide wires going back through the fire wall when I decide where to run them. I want it to be as clean as possible. Stay tuned.

Oh right LS motor...nice plan, and that will leave more room under the dash should a AirVintiques AC be in the plan. I'll be watching.

Some sort of AC is in my future since I'm planning on driving during the summer when it's a buck o five every day. I haven't figured out which one yet but it's a ways off so I have time to research it. Let me know if you see one that fits nicely. I've never heard of Air Vintiques. I'll check it out.

Fill em all! If I had to do it again, I would cut out the raised part where the heater box was, and fill with a flat panel. It was really hard to block around that area.


on another note, where did you get those engine covers?

I got the engine cover on ebay. I'm working on some more ideas for the firewall, so I'll keep that in mind. Many hours of blocking ahead. Thanks

Yeah no one has, that should have been Vintage Air...now I'm blending company names, that can't be a good sign. The link below is the one for 67-72 Chevs, the street rod AC's may be smaller.

They're Dynatech MuscleMaxx headers with 1 7/8 primaries and 3" collecters. I meant to post that pic in another thread so I can get a measurement and see if they will hang down past the frame rails. I've seen them on different trucks and they seem to hang about 2-3 inches below the frame. I'm not sure if they'll work but there aren't many long tube alternatives for a 66 C-10 with an LS swap.
