You're using the wrong stuff. They're REALLY attracted to epoxy primer. How'd ya like the new stuff?

Nice work Alan! Is that a 3m primer gun with the throw away fluid caps?

It sprays just like slick sand. Very thick. Using the PPS cups I realized I should have pulled the filter out of the lid. It was too thick to go thru the filter which created a sputter. Next time I know. I tried to use the same cup and lid to save money, but after the 4th or 5th refill the sputter really got bad. The filter was plugging up. I installed a new PPS lid and it sprayed like when I started. That's when I realized I should have removed the filter. The only difference I noticed was the smell. I did cut it with maybe a tablespoon of thinner.

Good eye, you are correct. A painter gave me the gun cause he didn't like it. If my theory is correct about the sputter being caused by the filter then I will like it. The white tip is a 2.0 and the red is a 1.8. I used the white. I believe that info is correct. The only reason I knew that is that we got the new undercoating kits at work and it uses these tips.

EDIT I was wrong about the tip size. The white is 1.8. Here's a link to 3M PN 16570 on Amazon 3M PN 16570 on Amazon

That cup system is so nice if you're rigged for it. I need to invest, I'm too cheap! Do you like the new powder guide coat? I love it. Keep it up!

Re: Greg65 build thread

looking good alan, hope you figure out the sputter problem, I know in my gun I couldn't use the cup filter it wouldn't allow enough primer volume to spray evenly, almost like a dry spray except worse.

Re: Greg65 build thread

Had a chance to ride up and check out the progress Alan has made on the cab yesterday. There are a few more small areas the he wants to address and then let the blocking begin. I'm very pleased with all of his hard work.

Thanks. The mosquito reminded me of growing up on a lake in east Texas. Those things where everywhere.

not sure if that's a skeeter...looks like one of those things we call skeeter-eaters,

Cab is looking good. I know it gets harder to be patient as it gets closer paint. I have a lot of patience, but even I get a little antsy when it comes to stuff like this. Good thing you have Alan, because we all know he'll take the necessary time to make sure it's exactly how you want it.

Btw, don't know if you saw the link in my build thread or this one I posted, but please let any family/friends in the Northeast Alabama area to be on the lookout:

Re: Greg65 build thread

Yes I agree. I could not ask for anyone better to work with. My problem is I have a lot of questions but when I get up to Alan's and see the cab my mind goes blank. Not sure if it's the wow factor or old age.

I saw the link and hate that for your Dad. If I remember there is a large salvage yard in his area. If any of my friends here anything I will let you know.

Re: Greg65 build thread

No new progress on the truck on my end but I did get to play Greg's VW towing and recovery last night. My nephew's '62 had clutch problems and sits to low to fit on his Dad's trailer. it's always good to help the younger generation when needed.

I have to admit the super build 4:1 is hard to sand. It did set for almost a month. I don't know what it would sand like the next day. A few progress pics.

Very nice work Alan. I always hated the sanding phase while doing body work. I guess that's why I hang out in the parts department now.
