The house-side will be bordered with the siding J-channel, I'm going to install 1/4 round on the sides/front. Haven't decided if I want it blue like the ceiling or white like the trim.

Oh yeah, I took it as a joke. My wife has said she's seen a noticeable decrease in stink bugs in our bedroom (their favorite place to hang out).

Yes, I was incredibly lucky. When I said it's the second time I've done it, the first time was like 9 years ago. Same deal, it was the dang trim nailer and I was trying to hold a piece of crown molding to the top of the cabinet and the nails were a lot longer than I thought they would be..., one "kinked" sideways and went about 1/4" into the side of my palm

So, as always, I have to screw something up... It was getting dark saturday night and I was trying to install the section in front of the door before dark... and I installed a board upside down (so no bead). I couldn't let it go so I had to carefully remove 17 boards I installed to get back to it. I only screwed up 2. That's why you see a lot fewer boards and paint in the last pic.

I learned my lesson and put up a ton of plastic (the floor was eventually covered as well).

Love the outcome, and it's only the first splotchy coat. The days are getting too short, ran out of time. Hopefully my plastic can make it through the rest of the week so I can get the 2nd coat on this weekend.

This idea has been in my head forever. I love the tradition of the "Haint Blue" ceiling to keep the boohags away in the South

Apparently there is no such thing as a color code for "Haint Blue" offered by anyone, it's more of a generalized name for a color ranging from a blue-ish green to a sky blue. I think we ended up picking "Surf Blue" by Behr.

I hate how my camera adds a slight curve to pics at times, this baby is dead on straight!

...and we went from summer straight to hoodie season here in SC...

1. Wet Paint.

2. Difference between 1 coat and 2. Two is in the foreground.

3. I did my best to pick the best, straightest pieces, and used scrap pieces to bump them together, but still had gaps. I was going to let them go... but just couldn't. I spent a couple hours filling all the gaps in. I did do one coat to "paint the gaps" in case they ever opened back up... (this pic is probably the closest to how the paint looks in person)

4 & 5. Final (3rd) coat after caulking... Love it. Wife's super happy.

Ended up working a couple weekends again at work... this **** needs to stop soon, I'm freakin' salary.

So still slowly progressing.

I'm also one piece of J-channel short and one of my new shutters has a giant gash down the front so I'll pick up a new set, can't have that on the porch where it's front and center!

I did get one side done through. Done, cleaned up, and even got my cool new PVC trim up! I found a cool looking piece that was 1" thick so I didn't have to fill on my nail holes on the sides (I added an extra couple nails on each end that would be hidden under the trim.)

I hope to finish the other side and the soffit this weekend. My parents are coming down from NY Thanksgiving weekend, and they only make it down every few years, so I'd love for them to see the house done when everything is fresh and clean.

Also, for the first time in my life, I legit fell off the damn ladder. I've "fallen" before when I jumped, or the ladder was collapsing weird and I jumped... basically I knew it was about to happen and took evasive action. This time, wet flip flops, wet ladder, putting top screws in shutter, I got a couple steps down and WHAM! Like a sack of potatoes. Wife heard it, freaked out, and ran outside... Pretty sore still. My elbow, thigh, and ribs on my right side took the hardest hit.

Glad it wasnt serious injuries...those falls will get ya...a couple of guys I work with were badly injured falling off ladders at separate times....couple yrs ago I slid off the roof of my pole barn...fell 10ft...landed on my butt on a big rock..all i got was a huge bruise that looked like elvis..guess im tuffer than most..

Looking good Jesse. I will keep quiet about my coordination efforts on ladders. Guess that is why we used gaffs or buckets on cable repairs. Hope ya heal quickly!

The face board was all sorts of crooked and cattywampus. The corners didn't meet up right. When we bought the house the gutters were slam full of leaves and dirt, so they probably never got emptied, and the water overflowed and got behind the tin. There was a tiny bit of rot on the face boards. The roof plywood was good/solid/dry so I think it's from overflowing gutters.

I couldn't get the corners/sides to straighten out so I replaced both sides and the front corners. I also added a 2x6 brace to pretty much every joist.

Also not shown in the pics is the 4' gap without support on the left front corner (both sides). I added a 2x4 to span the gaps. I obviously couldn't tie the plywood roof to it, but it's nailed to the face board and porch joist, so it's at least holding up the plywood now.

Edit, added pic of where I added support. Imagine the roof with just the corner truss then a 4' gap on each side

The other side was done correctly. Must have ran out of 2x4's that day...

Getting closer. I took time off work this afternoon to get the metal up. It was 66*. Might be the last warm day for a while, looks like 50's and lower next couple of weeks. Learned my $$$ lesson from my garage tin warping from installing it in 25* temps.

It was getting pretty dark out, but new "F channel", new soffit, and new tin. I also cleaned up the old tin around the porch headers. It cleaned up almost like new, not bad for 20 years old. I figured I could repaint it if I really need to, but it cleaned up really nice.

I also spent $30 on a quality USA made flag, it looks super awesome.

My parents came down Thanksgiving weekend. It was awesome having them here!

My dad helped me put the last few pieces up. I got all the shutters on... essentially done. I still have a few trim pieces to put up under the porch, but it looks done

I wanted to take some good comparison pics this weekend, but we've had terrible (rain) weather and I've been sick and during the week its dark when I leave and get home. This weekend doesn't look much better. It likes to rain fri-sun here the past month or so...

Also said goodbye to an old friend. With me buying the super nice '68 (to my wife's delight) my dad took the 67 back home. He's already freed up the old 400 in it and trying to get it to fire. We flattened all of the tires. He said it pulled great the 700 miles back to NY.

Time to finish up a few things inside and start planning my shop build for the spring...

It's almost a weird feeling... like wow... I actually did it... way behind schedule, but it's like... done...

There's still stuff to do... I never painted the back french doors and frame, I have to schedule the gutters/downspouts, and I'll have someone replace the garage door (it's beat to hell from previous owners and hail dents), but yeah... good feeling

Hmmm. Looks like they repaired it. Splice it and then let a subcontractor come bury it later.

I actually repaired it. I can't have the utilities come out until they're fully done grading (probably next week) as they only put these things 4-6" deep in this area. I have to remember to unhook it each morning and move it out of the way so it doesn't get destroyed again.

For those of you northerner's panicking for me, 8"x16" is common practice for a garage footing here. We have zero frost, ever. I also tested soils for about 3 years... this was some of the hardest packed stuff I've ever tested. Even after a hard rain, it could have been poured an hour later. This stuff is SOLID.

The plan is footings (2 rows of 1/2" bar have been added) will get poured today if the inspector makes it by lunch, then a couple days to do the two layers of block wall, then pour the slab by the end of the week. After the slab is done, they'll finish grading and pour the driveway that day (hopefully frid/sat of this week). The area on the left side in the back will have a door, so I want it quite a bit flatter, and they still have to flatten out the hill next to the driveway.
