Re: Daverods 52

Ordered a bunch of 2.5" exhaust stuff from Summit. Got a x pipe and some cut outs. Had to move my middle cross member to the rear alittle so the x pipe would fit. Figure I sould have a hell of an exhaust for the 500 the shop guy quoted me. I wanted to do it myself anyway. Maybe with the $$ I saved I can get some of those electric cut out controlls. Thanks Beast, looks like a good yard. Somthing else to do this summer. Thanks for the input on the brake thang. Kinda what I was hoping.

Re: Daverods 52

I was thinking of doing the same thing. What did the pipes cost you from Summit?

Re: Daverods 52

4 bends and 4 straight pipes 2.5" was like 100 150. I also got the 2.5 flanges for my headers and a x pipe( extra 60). It was still cheap. I could have made the x pipe.

Re: Daverods 52

I'm surprised your not a dealer. I just got the full 180 bends then going to cut them up as I need them. Also 4' straight pieces. I should have plenty. I could build a roll cage with the stuff left over.

Re: Daverods 52

I don't have the buying power to be a dealer. Besides Summit is pretty affordable. Then there's also E-bay...

Re: Daverods 52

Found some shocks for the front. They clear everything. The only thing I'm kinda worried about is the angle of the shock? Do they need to be at an angle? Right now it straight up and down. Pulled my driveline out of my 64. Going to get the end welded on right(in phase). Guess the P.O did'nt think it mattered.

Re: Daverods 52

You should be OK on the shocks. Sometimes you don't have much of a choice. At least you have shocks. A lot of the kids doing there own bags doen't even put shocks on them.

Re: Daverods 52

Made a huge difference on the rear. I think I'm still going to get spacers. Damn things are $$$. Driveline guy said he would cut the end off and balance both shafts for 85. Seemed like a fair deal. Good guess I'll put the shock on the other side and weld it up good. Can't wait to get my cab back on.

Got a few parts for my exhaust. Thinking about dumping it out the side. It would make things easier.

Re: Daverods 52

Damn Dave you post everyday! Do you ever do anything besides work on your truck???? Just kidding dude, I'm actually jelous of how much time and effort you have been puting into your ride. I work 2 jobs just to make ends meet since getting layed off from and awsome job building jets for Cessna. I haven't had the time or money to do much over the last year on my truck.

This is a late answer to your brake question so you probably already figured this out. When you change out your brake pads you back everything off (usually by compressing the piston back inside the caliper using a C clamp)so your new (and thicker) pads will fit over the rotor. You have to pump your brake pedal a few times to get everthing back together to where the pads make slight contact with the rotor. DON'T EVER make the mistake of flying out of the driveway thinking "I have new brakes.....No worries!". The first time you need to stop you might just rear end somebody. So pump them a few times until the pedal feels good and then check the fluid level and top it off in needed. My 2 cents.

Keep up the good work on your truck you slacker

Most the time I just sit and stare at it. Thanks for the brake info. I know what the no brake thing feels like. Got some new boxes of pipe today. Have some things to go stare at.

Plan 2 or 3. Broke the end off my crank this weekend. So I looked out the window a lot. Should have stayed home and worked on the truck. I need some hangers.

Looking cool Dave!! Just read about your power steering pump; the flare and o-ring fittings screw out the back of the pump with a socket. They're interchangeable; I ran into the same thing with my 90's serp set-up and my 70's steering box. They switched from flare to o-ring in '79 or '80.

We had some then it blew north at about 65. I've been waiting all winter for the perfect powder day it still hasn't happened.
