Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Martin,

Do you need a 168 tooth flexplate?

If so I have one, we can do a deal on the bedside you don't use.

My engine is a single rear seal type with inline starter bolts so it's a 153 tooth type

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well with Ian working on his truck and Rian working on his . I might start feeling guilty not working on mine . Well after getting my old engine on the pallet ready for Monday ,there wasn't any room in the carport to start sanding down the rest of the chassis . So on Sunday morning myself and Amanda had arranged to meet Dell at a local show. He came over from Essex to the show with his wife his two children. His mother and father in law and grand parents Came as well as the live in Kent .

This is Dells truck he spent all day Saturday rubbing it down ready so he can clear coat it

These are a few of the pictures I took

Well all being well the courier company will collect the engine on Monday and I can finish off the chassis

To make things easier I won this on eBay this evening

So all in all it looks like the guys in the UK have had a good weekend

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Thanx for sharing the pics…
Score on the engine stand…

168 tooth flex plate for a 700R4 trans behind the 5.7L is what I found here that we talked about the other day…

Cheers Mate!

My box is a th350 and according to the thread I read, if the starter bolts are in line it's a 153 tooth I need ,unless anybody can tell me other wise
My engine code is 14093638
according to my search that makes it a one -piece rear seal engine designed for a truck with high swirl intake ports roller lifters center bolt valve covers

The 700R4 flexplate will bolt to the TH 350 box and the parts guy was saying both boxes were bolted to 168tooth plates

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

I know you love a T-Shirt Martin

Just saw these on FartsBook.

At $10.00 each they seem cheap enough.

Looks like the 60-66 trucks are getting into print now, not a bad thing.

Of course I have no idea who or where Kohl's are. My total reference to US shops is Walmart and Sears and of course HF.

Just in case anyone missed them out there.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well no work on the truck tonight, unless you count pressing buttons on the internet. With the holiday looming myself and Rian have been checking out parts and prices and options on getting them home . Well it's a big thank you to Don , he must feel like a kid at Christmas , only to find all the pressies are for you brother. I can only blame Ian for tonight's purchase as his engine bay is awesome .

Ian's engine bay

So this is tonight's purchase

All I can say is my case is going to get heavier

SUCKERRRR !!!!!!

You are such a Magpie !!

But Ian's whole build so far is rather special.

I have been emailing a few local and U.S. Companies tonight as well........

These guys come highly recommended here in the UK, and even on Facebook truck groups there seems to be consensus that their products offer a great balance of quality vs cost.

http://www.championradiators.com/Che...radiator-63-66

I have asked them for more info too.

I think there is a saying in " gangster land" that goes........ "Sh!7just got real"

Panhard rods next.

Free handed some bits of skirting board for Martin's shed today to test out the like new router I bought a few months ago for £10.00 at a Bootfair to replace my old Elu which had suddenly ceased to work.

Probably good for draft exclusion under the gates.

This is good news.

I always like my rear end quite tight.

Little by little.

Thanks Don.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Martin, as discussed yesterday, I am happy to make you a nice set of removable bed sides in oak once your truck is back together.

This was the style and design I had in mind.

It needs to be quite low, and more cosmetic than functional.but we can play with the height, though three strips will be too much IMHO.

(Think I saw this pic on FB)

I think for your long Fleetside, the style I made for my truck is too much.

First pic gives an idea with full length.

I did not want a plain, two rail bed side but rather a stepped one.

So cut and prepped the wood to have it like this, and then mocked it all up before doing the wood glue and clamps.

Then used a dark varnish to get the sides ready for when the teak boards get processed.

visibility.

Bed sides fitted showing the dark stain. I prefer light wood to be honest.

Sorry for throwing more ideas your way, but you have progressively managed to make me break my truck.....

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

As I said earlier today was going to be a busy day .
Awake at 5am surfing the net to check what I could get for the truck . Then I got up fed and the dogs, later wishing I hadn't fed the Labrador retriever as you'll see why later . He obviously didn't like what I gave him and got his own back .

So got ready jumped on the bike to meet Rian at my local filling station . We had arranged go to the mx5 breakers . We had to go on the bikes because with this whole bloody "refugee" thing at Calais, and the Euro-Tunnel, and Operation Stack, closing the M20 Coast bound, which was most of our route, so it involved a reroute through the country lanes instead of the motorway. We even stopped for a McD's Coffee on the way.thank Rian

The reason for going to the MX5 breakers was my heater fan blower didn't work when I got my truck . So hunting around in my garage I found a spare one from an mx5 that with a little work I could make fit . So after telling Rian this (and me getting told off for not taking pictures) we had to go and get one to replace his faulty unit .

This meant me spending 30 minutes upside down removing it for him

At last it's out

Then it was back on the bikes with a quick detour via the Sandblasters , to get a price on getting some truck parts blasted . Luckily they have only shut the motorway going southbound so getting home was a lot quicker ( well if Rian's big BMW could keep up that is )

I took, the Kawasaki instead of the Harley and I do get carried away on the lanes and bends

So after an adrenaline rush , riding home it was time to get my engine on the new stand I had purchased on eBay during the week .
Also I had said to Paul I would take a look at the bed sides . As he needed the front section of one to repair woody . So first thing first we got the engine out of the carport ready to load onto the stand . Then we got the bedsides out and laid them out to check what was the best ones to use .

This is when it all went so wrong

After laying them on there side and deciding that the ones I got from Dell ,were the better option to use,as we were putting them in the garage ,our Labrador decided to knock the engine off the trolley onto the bedsides .

The culprit taking my rottie for a walk

At least the engine had a soft landing

So the decision was made, I got out the air saw and set about cutting up the old bedsides

So after getting the bedsides cut up and the relevant bits being harvested . We got the engine into the garage onto the stand

So after all the work was done at my place, it was over to Rian's place to pull out his engine and box .
This is how we left Rian's truck

I'm too much of a good friend to post a picture of his face after it was all stripped , it was a mixture of worry and relief
