Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally finished the process of painting the wheels that I bought. The wheels are from a late 70's early 80's 4x4, they were originally white, and had center caps only (mine didn't have them when I got them mind you). I had a 71 Cuda with factory rally wheels a long time ago. They were a similar design to these, except the center section was inverse. I think the similarity in design
is what attracted me to these wheels. First I had a buddy machine the center hole in each rim out to 3.625. Don't recall the exact beginning dimension, but the dimension was about 0.020 too small, and they would not fit over the hub front or rear. Second off to the sandblaster. At first I was a little upset as the finish after blasting was very, very rough, and all of the rust was not gone. While I used rust converter (applied liberally), I put on my thinking cap as to how to deal with the rough finish. Medium steel wool is what I tried first, and I was very pleased with the result. The rust converter seemed to do it's job... so I did mine, man I am sore... steel wool + 5 wheels (all surfaces) = one day of hard labour. I was also left feeling a little unsure as to how the paint would end up looking. So, off to the laundry tub for a good scrub with soap and water, towel dry, a liberal application of One Choice wax and grease remover. Two coats of primer, and three coats of semi gloss black, and I am very happy with the result. Tomorrow, ordering the rubber, hoping to have them on by the weekend. I am a hot rodder at heart, so big ones back there, and littler ones up front. Next up, beauty rings, and center caps!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Me too! Undecided on the tire sizes, either 275/60R15's on the back, and 225/70R15's on the front, or 295/50R15's on the back, and 235/60R15's on the front...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Retrofitted the fan shroud off of my '77 350 sbc parts truck and installed in my '64. A lot of notching and I had to fab some brackets, but it fits and works well.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Should you be interested in something to compare against, I’m running 255/70’s on the rear and 215 /70’s on the front, all on 15x7” wheels. The Fleetside bed accommodates much wider rear tires than the stepside. As a diameter reference my front tires are 26.89” tall and the rears are listed as 29.1” tall.

Those look sooo nice! I need to do that on mine as well, but haven't had the will to undertake it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Dove into the struggle with the vinyl floor mat today. Time will tell how nice it turns out, but it is without question the most difficult installation I've ever encountered. It's like trying to wrestle a sheet of ABS plastic into the shape of a truck floor!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
finished the patching of the passenger side inner fender.
Then my son and I cleaned them up along with the core support and shot on 3 coats of hammer paint on the driver side one and the core support. It looks fantastic! I have to make a few comments on this paint: First, it covers incredibly well. Second, it is very very easy to spray when you thin it 20% with acetone. Third, it covers imperfections way better than I expected. The only drawback is that it dries slow. It took over 7 hours to stop being tacky. Luckily it won't be bolted back together for at least two months so it will have plenty of time to dry. I ran out of paint and have to paint the other one tomorrow. I will take pics then as well because I forgot my camera today. Steven
