Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put in a new adjuster into the left front brake, adjusted it, replaced a broken lug-stud, re-packed the bearings, and put it all back together.
The pedal now feels much firmer much sooner.
Next up, same for the right front.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Started out taking the front bumper off (spent a half hour taking two bolts out only to find that the bumper was welded to the frame), and my dad helped me rebuild my rear brakes.

Thumbs up Re: What did you do to your truck today!

By the time you read this , I wil be driving it 'round L.A. doing the many errands I have to do this , my day off .

I added the usual Christmas Wreath but the illumination part failed after only 20 + years ~ jeeze , those crappy Chinese can't make anything good ! .

I hope all our Mid Western folks made it through the Blizzard yestday O.K. ~ I have not so fond memories of sliding around snow and ice slick rural New England Highways and Farm to Market back roads in well rusted pickups 50 years ago.......

Chain up the rear wheels , fill the bed with filled sand bags or scrap metal and wish the heater core handn't burst from poor maintenance years before...

FWIW , holding your foot against the rusted out toeboard to keep the snow & slush from hitting you in the face works really well but , the inevitable frostbite hurts much worse , thank God for hot coffee ! .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got my cab back upright today after replacing the floor. Now it's time to go to work on the pillars and rockers.

Most of the blizzard went South of us up here. I'd sort of like a little more snow this time of year, though. Although brushing snow (or worse yet, scraping frost and ice) off the cars so we can get to work in the morning is getting to be a pain with the truck project taking up both stalls of the garage.

lol I had an old S10 Blazer a while back that the heater went out on. Fortunately it had a sunroof that I could open when driving around in the winter to keep my breath from fogging up the windows. Not as cold as opening the window.

Took off the trash, and stopped by the gas station. came straight back home. Sucks, but every mile is better then just watching it sit!

Replaced the re-pop GMC bumper my friend gave me with my newly re-chromed original bumper. The original bumper sure fits better than the re-pop did.

Post Re : Randy's Rig

Looking very nice there ! .

Did the grille fit easily or was there moch fooling with it ? . mine is all beat up if still fairly shiny and I want to replace it but I keep hearing horror stories about the repop grilles with " CHEVROLET " stampings .

It was in the low 40*'s this morning @ 0-Dark:30 when I left out , my heater didn't warm up for over 5 miles so mayhap I have the wrong thermostat in there , it might be a 160* from when it lived in TEXAS .

I normally run 185* or 190* F 'stats as the engine runs far more efficiently when it's as close to boiling as you can keep it .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Sorry to hear about your uncle. At least he's not in pain anymore. I know how hard it is to lose family to cancer. I have lost several family members that way.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Jason - Sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose someone we love and it's even harder when dealing with such loss around the holidays. Hopefully, with the love of your family and with many good memories to help you, you'll get through this. You and your family will be in our thoughts in the coming days. don

First of all, sorry for your loss Jason, I lost my father when he was a very young 51 to cancer. It is a rotten disease. Keep his memory alive and know he will always be proud of you.

It may be late to mention this or maybe you are aware but the most important is the first 20 minutes while breaking in the cam. It is important to valve train life.

They say go easy for the first 500 miles and I think if it is going to break it will with in the first 50 no matter how you drive it.

Good Luck, Have Fun and Happy Holidays
