Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Put in a pair of seatbelts... then realized I don't like wearing a seatbelt.
Meh, maybe a passenger will put em to use.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Long story short; For an extra, I bought the dash set up from a seller on EBay and it came like this.....I sent him a message. But he didn't write back.
I wanted to use the nacelle. But I was going to paint it. What I really wanted, though, was the rest of the dash parts. So, I stripped the dash and put the guts in my old plastic nacelle...which I previously screwed up to get it off (see the area around the choke hole). I bought a different dash that I'm running now... But, on this one (the gloss black one with the cut up choke area), I'm going to put a 2-1/16" electric clock in the boo-boo, and then have a full extra dash ....Why? I don't know. It's a disease. Now, off to find a 2 1/16" black-faced electric clock..........

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Sorry, been busy and missed this.
Basically I just did the first set up based on research from a Google search. This is one source. http://antique-engines.com/electrol.asp The solution is nothing more than water and washing soda. The anodes are just iron bars. Hook a 12V positive from a decent battery charger to the anode, then hook the negative to the part to be cleaned. The first setup was a small trial run and didn't require as much current, but the bigger setup draws a little more. I let the brackets run for about 24 hours or so. A little cleaning with a brush and a quick shot in the cabinet and they were ready for powder.

Removed the ashtray and glovebox door to ship to New York for pinstriping and air brush artwork. Also treated the truck to a new glove box liner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well, for the first time sense last October, it was over 60 degrees in South east Michigan today and I took full advantage of it.
Rolled the 72 out of the storage unit and worked on some wiring issues. The PO hade two headlight relays, one for low beam and one for high. I was not sure why they were there so I removed them and wired the lights back up like original an everything works fine. Do these relays make a difference? I am not sure there purpose but no they are not factory. I also got rid of the aftermarket coolant recovery jug that someone had to have. I don't have a problem with a little coolant spiting out if need be. I am wondering if I have the correct PS pump for a short style water pump or if there is any difference other than the pulleys. I am going to put the alternator back on the drivers side and put a short water pump back on like it is suppose to have. Can anyone tell from the pic if the PS pump is correct? I also cleaned up the new AM radio and admired the gate for the first time outside. Overall, it was a good day of fun working on the old 72. Off to El Paso tomorrow for the week for work. I will be scouting for parts. |

Far as the relays go, they say it makes the lights brighter and steadier. I'll be wiring mine up with relays whenever I get close to that stage of my build.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my heater to work. This truck probably hasn't had the heater working in 20 years . Never worked while I've owned it and it never worked for the PO. Pulled my glove box out and noticed that the controls where just unplugged. Plugged everything up and got a nice loud hum from the fan!. Woohoo!. Then I got some fittings for the intake/waterpump and hooked her all up and it turned out the heater core was busted. Ordered one from Oriellys and it was to big. Returned it and got one from Auto-zone. Then while I was screwing it on the core got punctured by the screws that hold it in place! So took that back and got another one. Then after grinding the mounting screws down I put her back together and I now have HEAT! Did all this without having to drop the fender or wheel well(Skinny hands/arms and a lot of patience)......... But I did leave 2 bolts off so I can easily take it off again later.
Then after seeing this I got a vacuum and sucked out all the leaves out of the cab/vents. Now when the weathers like this I can be nice and cozy! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Sunday, I was going to change trim rings and decided I would run it like this for a few days.
It would look good dropped about 2'' front and rear. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Thats got a mean Nascar look to it with the big lettering on the tires. I think a 6" drop would look sweet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I installed a Volante CAI today. And scribed off a piece of clear Lexan to redo the top from the Volante piece into a clear window, just for kicks. I had the piece of Lexan laying around so I figured why not?
Next up? Exhaust! Last week was a new single DIN CD deck withe the adapter mount that has a small pocket underneath the deck so it doesn't just look like a "wrong-sized" stereo floating there in a flat piece of plastic.
