Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Cleaned around it, because I get the first new set of tires, since the build began 3yrs ago, in the morning.
I am excited to get some real rubber on her ("Sally"), my wife named her Sally. She said any thing you spend so much time on must have a name, and it must be a girl to keep my full attention as she has.
Anyway I am going to put new lugs on her in the morning so her new shoes will stay put.
I also removed the tape that was holding the door seals in place while the glue dried.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I took the grinder to the front grille, put the GMC letters on, put the headlights together, put the grille on the truck, took off the mirrors and cleaned them and repainted them... not a bad day!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Converted from worn, jamming coloumn shift to a Mr Gasket floor shifter. Went pretty well and took about 3 hours.

Anyone want the old column shift linkage? free for the cost of shipping.

I am not inrterested in the linkage, but I am wanting to find out how to remove it. I am rebuilding a column, and struggling with the last bit of tear down. The tab between the two linkage arms, is it press fit? welded?

Can't help you, sorry' I just unbolted the linkages where they attach to the arms on the column and left the arms in place.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Barely got home from the dump, when I realized my truck was running off of battery.....

Voltmeter was dead meat....... Seems I may have an older alternator wired into an earlier external voltage regulator that may be prone to failures...... running a 76 SB 350... and I sure would like to convert to an internal VR.

Well done on the dome light!

That's my plan as well.

BTW, did you tap the holes in the door posts?

I didn't tap the holes. The pins come with a small nut. I drilled a hole slightly larger than the pin threads and then used a washer and tightened it down with the nut.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Just scored both uncut non-rusted inner fender wells and both door glasses for the 66 for $80 from a guy I found on Craigslist. Super nice guy with a really clean 65 that he almost has complete. Turned him onto the forum hopefully he will join.

Fyi – here’s an article on the installation some might find helpful. I followed this when installing my door switches:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Here is a good one for you.
A few weeks ago (ok about 4) I had my truck hooked up to start it. It wouldn't start and I had no spark to the plugs. A friend of mine came down today with his volt meter and we started with the switch and had 12 volts there. Then out to the coil (HEI ignition) and no volts there. I pushed the plug back on the switch and 12 volts popped up. I tried cranking but no spark, the 12 volts went away. My new wiring harness has a fuse for the coil and it blew. Why did it blow.. Who knows..
Took the cap off to make sure the rotor was in there and even turning and it was. Want to make sure the dodad was in the middle of the cap touching the rotor and it was. Finally I pulled the coil to see if make I broke a wire. I never took the coil out of the dist (which is a brand new Mallory) and as soon as I lifted it up we saw that the coil was in upside down. Who ever put the coil in at the factory put it in upside down. I flipped it over sprayed the carb with starting fluid and my truck made that BBC sound through open headers. What a smile I had on my face and then after that I had another friend come down adn help me put the hood back on.
