Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Painted last of the under hood sheet metal, welded in the last couple little patches on the bed cross members and started cleaning up the shop. Man! what a mess grinding, wire wheeling and welding makes!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Pulled the Vent windows and as well as the windows, ordered the Vent windows seals and rivets. Thank You Alan for the awesome write-up on re-doing the Vent windows.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got another box of parts today from classic parts. And I should have my new to me wheels and tires tomorrow. I found a set of chrome 15x8 rallys that match my fronts on CL for $100. I had to pay another $90 for shipping but it's well worth it! If it's not raining too bad tomorrow my day is all planned out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

The Burb started running real rough the last couple days so I broke down and bought a new Edelbrock 600 CFM carb with electric choke and everything to do a tuneup. I pulled the old quadrajet off tonight in the pouring rain and have a new list of parts I need to get tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get better than 8 miles to the gallon when I'm done.

Mine started running rough a couple days ago also. I assumed it was cuz I put reg octane in or that it had rained really hard and maybe got a little water n the gas. I put some Heet in and I'm going to try some octane boost and go back to medium grade gas.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

That's the same engine I put in my truck back in 1991. it's getting pretty tired now but still runs fine. Of course they were a lot cheaper back then. Mine came to $1260 with a factory balancer, starter, flexplate, dipstick, and a few other odds and ends. I think the engine itself was $899. Wish I could get another one today for that price!

It was 1639.01, current offer from GM is a $200 gift card to Sears, Home Depot, or Esso (like Exxon). So, essentially 1439.01, I am happy with the price, and it is a lot cheaper than rebuilding the old 283. Would be nice to have kept the 283, but the extra power, and the waranty made it an easy decision.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got my new back wheels on, new screws on the inner door panels, passenger side thinggy that keeps the door from opening too far, new door handles on, new gas cap, new glove box rubber stoppers. Didn't get to dye the seat black or paint the glove box door, maybe tomorrow. I also need to get the front tires turned around so the letters are inside.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I tried white letters out once and I didn't care for them either (at least not on my truck):

Yeah I'm hoping to get the tires turned around tomorrow. Not a fan of the RWL's.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

waiting on my headers, should have got them today. not much to take pictures of, just doing all the wiring for the choke, fan, fan relay, and hei. had to figure out the gas pedal/carb linkage, all the old stuff was trash... got all the heater/rad hoses installed. also got two 40 series flowmaster to install but want to get the headers back first. this will cool up to 600hp so i shouldnt have any problems.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

made some progress yesterday but working some issues like no dipstick and such. the headers with the jet hot coating, inside and out....they have that "hammered" finish....better know as pitting from being so rusty from before......some people pay for stuff like that and no that is not my blood on the floor..this time. also the engine is starting to come together. it started on the first try. it sounds nasty with the old muffles...cant wait to hear it with the flowmasters.

hope everybody is enjoying the weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I was going to a car show, got about 10 miles and stopped for gas. Reached for my wallet, not there. Great! Decided to go home to get it, my starter wouldn't work. It wouldn't engage so I tapped a couple of time and got it started. So I came home and pulled it out. Decided to watch the Texans smack the Ravens.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Drove it up to Dubai for the Gulf Bike Week; went to enter my bike into the custom bike competition... my bike did not place. But I had a great drive and arrived in 'style' and had no truck problems thankfully. I had so many 'thumbs-up' and photos taken as I drove the 146 miles, the drive and many conversations I had about the truck were more enjoyable than the actual show!

Cheers!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got the cab off the frame and on the trailer. Then, I removed the cross member.

Also got an oven from a friend of mine so I can start powder coating.

Gonna take the crossmember to my buddy's shop so I can work on it on the big bench and use the paint room.

I put the new speedometer gear in and got the front wheel bearings in. I can feel the difference they were so bad.
