Re: Show us your projects
Took some new pics over the weekend, but some more work has been done since. No headlights since I took them out to wire them up and found serious rust and screws that help the headlamp retainers in also held the buckets in the fenders. lol, makes sense just because it's the last thing the seller had done that I have to redo.
Dash closer to complete. |

Re: Show us your projects
Been a member for a while but just got my first truck last Saturday.
Looking forward to learning all about it. Runs, drives, stops. And I like the patina it currently has. Came with a lot of goodies too... Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Show us your projects
That is a nice truck, wish I bought mine in that condition instead of the mess I have to deal with and redo from bumper to bumper what had been "professionally customized", lol.
I would get it some better brakes, drop it 4-5 inches and some painted wheels with chrome rings and caps, DONE! Maybe some stereo and A/C equipment too? |

Re: Show us your projects
Thanks. Just got it all licensed today. Brakes and fixing the steering column (it's a little loose and the truck drifts a bit as you drive) are first priority right now. Then there's some rust pockets to address. I still need to sort through all the goodies it came with and decide what should go on it straight away and what can wait for a full restoration down the road. Fun times

Re: Show us your projects
I've been working on getting the fenderwell headers to fit. I'm going to hold off until I can get it to my Sons' shop to finish the drivers side. The passengers side was fine and needed no changes.
The E-brake is in and connected, the B&M ratchet shifter is connected and working, the fuel delivery system is 90% done now, all the wiring is complete, the seat is upholstered, and carpet is all that is left. I need tunes too yet, bleed the brakes, fill the fuel tank, fill the radiator, hook up some mufflers to the headers and cut-outs and then it'll be off to the Dyno to fire it up and get the initial break in done. The motor is a '69 396 .060 over (408 c.i.) with lots of attention to horsepower internally. The TH350 is built w/extra clutches, a shift kit, new internals and a 10" 3200 stall converter, posi 3.73 rear w/ ladder bars and disc brakes, front suspension is an '80 Camaro full IFS w/pwr steering. I had to go to a 195-45 15 tire to clear the headers. Once back from the Dyno, I'll put the rest of the sheet metal together and start putting some miles on it. They're building a new 1/4 mile track not far from where I live and it opens this coming summer of 2013...can't wait. later |

1957 GMC Suburban Pickup
I just finished paying for this hidden gem - tucked away on a farm in Nebraska, this original untouched and verifiably real (not cloned) 1957 Suburban Pickup is originally from Missouri and is a 2 owner truck. Factory 347 Pontiac V8 w/ Hydramatic auto trans. Estimated total production for 1957 was fewer than 400 of these fiberglass bed clad pickups. The Suburbans were GMC's answer to the Cameo but unlike Chevrolet who committed to making its Cameo a true member of the family with its own model designation and higher production, GMC never cared too much for the idea and never made a new model for the Suburbans since it never intended to make many in the first place. It is believed by some that GMC simply committed to ordering a fixed number of fiberglass bedsides from the struggling Corvette plant where they were made as more of a favor to GM than anything and to keep parity with Chevrolet; ordering 300 to 400 sets of the bedsides each of the 4 years and simply adding them at random to trucks headed down the line. Anyway, should prove to be a worthwhile challenge; this truck is not in good shape at all - but I get a dry nearly rust-free Wyoming 56 BW cab and rust free matching doors with the truck for an added 500.00 bones, so I will plan to use this instead of building the rotted cab it has. Same for several other areas - not sure how good the steel portion of the box is yet and I already know the tailgate is shot too. I have wanted a real one of these since I was 13 yrs old and despite the poor condition you sometimes get when buying an unrestored truck, It will be the most highly prized truck in my fleet when completely restored.....

Re: Show us your projects
This is an on going project for my wife. To record, the 1st 2012 vw beetle bagged in the states. Its been featured by several online automotive sites and also got a little coverage in Performance VW magazine...We have a new look planned for it for the 2013 show season.
Now that she is happy I finally picked up my next project. A 53 Chevy, yes it will be bagged also. |

Re: Show us your projects
Been focusing on the bed recently, since the money for the more expensive stuff is still nonexistent. Decided before starting that the underside would be the new top side, since it was in better condition... What we started with on the left and the refinished product on the right, after pressure washing, belt sanding, bleaching, hand sanding and six coats of polyurethane... The darkened ends will be covered by metal trim, as will the bolt holes on either side. Not perfect, but that was never the intention... Now time to clean up those metal strips!

Re: Show us your projects
Here's a couple of mine:
1950 Suburban 250 4speed 3:08 rear. Driving the snot out of it and haven't wanted to stop with the nice weather here to install the Sids 4" drop system, 700r4 and the 69 2x 3:73 rear that i have piled in the garage. Also have a 4.3 v6 stand alone painless system that was running on a buddys jeep crawler that I'm thinking of adapting to the stovebolt. . . So, we all have multiple projects right? I didn't want to be without a driver over the winter while my Burb was torn down, so I pulled this out from under a tree Monday, had it running Tuesday, drove it home Wednesday at lunch and spent Wednesday night washing it with a scotchbrite and CLR/ Ospho. It's super OG , 235, 4spd radio delete, washer bag on fenderwell and runs like a sewing machine. The dome and glove box lights even work! Plan: drop it on the steelies painted creme or mint, wrap them in Widewhites, Tabaco leather seat and healiner and repaint all the bumpers, grille and headlamp rings white. Then drive it while the Burb is down. [IMG]http://i953.photobucket.com/albums/ae18/newfisher/IMG_20121017_ |

Re: Show us your projects
LOL! Thats the main reason I had to have it! My wife thinks I'm nuts, especially when I drove it home Wednesday at lunch. "which neighbor bought Mater" is how the conversation started. After dinner last night I scrubbed the crud off for 3 hours and she says " when are you going to paint it?" I said " It's supposed to look like that" She says " you better never wash my car again" lmao!
