Pretty cool! Which toolset, Centura? Sumco is an epi house and I am an internal ASM Engineer and designed our batch epi reactors. Unfortunately, we are shutting the doors this year. Do you know Irwin Yablok? He is one of my friends and is an engineering manager at Intel.

FF, I don't know how to describe this. That car is simply amazing. The amount of shear talent and work you have put into that little car is astounding to think about. If I had half of your talent, I'd be gifted, lol.
I can't wait to see it finished!

I worked more on the rack today, building in some anti-rotation for the 5/8" bolts (pics will come later). Adapted the S2000 R&P boots to the Triumph rack. Re-installed the rack, the DS suspension, and a wheel. Cycled the steering from lock to lock. No issues at this point, but the arms will be about 2.5" shorter so we'll see then. Started building the jig for the tube arms ...That's as far as I got today. Not really any great pic-worthy stuff. If I make any decent progress tomorrow you know I'll post em up! ...and don't call me ahem (Airplane). Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 05-25-2010 at 02:56 AM. |

Amazing car and thread. Extended my lunch quite a bit to get through it. One of the coolest things I have ever looked at. Can't wait to see it running.

Definitely post pictures of the jig you build. Sometimes I like seeing that stuff as much as the finished product.

Gittin jiggy wit it.
Found an old socket for the perfect ball-joint stand-in: Though the support ring is not a perfect fit around the socket, it is positioned flush/level against the donor arm and will serve the purpose of positioning the new arm just fine: Minus three inches: Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 05-26-2010 at 03:02 AM. |

Nice!
I see you're taking your work home with you. I love that stuff for tool framing. I sometimes miss working HP's Corvallis campus. So you wear full bunny suits too? Nothing like working in a class 10 cleanroom. |

Those are pieces cut from an old shipping frame/jig from years ago that I thought "might be useful someday." Yep, full suit, hood to booties ...everyday

Frizzle,
When you going to paint this thing. I hope you have lots of sheets and blankets to cover all that custom under the hood and suspention upgrades so the over spray dont hit it. Have you decided on a color for it yet? JRBECK64 |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
i think he's gonna wind up powdercoating anything he can unbolt suspension wise before blowing the car apart for paint.
FF, that jig you got was from like a rack/crate or something? that's almost like those radiators with the universal mount brackets. totally awesome. i wish i could come across "junk" like that. practical junk is there any offset built into the arms? or are they centered left to right? they look pretty straight. were you just going to cut it and weld it up? or make a totally tubular approach for light weight using the factory bushings and attachment points?

You'd be surprised what get's thrown away in the high tech industries... There is a slight offset to the arms. I can't shorten them because they are cast. So yes, I will be building them out of 1" DOM. I initially planned to use the factory bushings but now I'm playing with the idea of using aftermarket stuff like Del-Shperes and/or Ballistic Fab parts: |

No to the first and I cant believe your not going to do some crazy paint scheme on this radical little feet of Engineering Prowess. Dont you want them Mountain Racers to see you coming? We got the 69 Long Fleet painted and cleared and now we are on a marathon of putting it back together. Then comes my 56 short step. Here is a question for you, what would you recommend for a replacement front suspention on my 56? Not sure if I want to go with an IFS or a Clip. What would you recommend? JRBECK64 |

No man, sleeper style!!!
On the 56, if it were mine I'd get in touch with Nate Porter and see what he has to offer. He's done a few 55-59's and will custom taylor to your specs (I know you don't like them too low...). Otherwise check with the 55-59 board. Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 03-28-2012 at 03:29 AM. |
