Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

We're starting to fit the cylinder/scissor lift into the frame and are figuring out a few things...

It's going to have to sit on top of the truck frame (driveline clearance) so we removed the rear crossmember we had previously flipped upside down to support the lift framework (won't work like we had thought ) and added some internal gussets into the frame where the front bed feet hit, the lower lift pivot will sit, and the frame splice is.

We then boxed the frame in from just behind the rear cab mounts, over the gussets, and back to the previously boxed rear portion of the frame.

I'm not worried about the integrity of the frame in this area...

Got some smoothing to do tomorrow then onto the lift mounts...

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

We got the exhaust back from being ceramic coated...came out pretty good.

We added one last section of through tube to the frame rails between the spring hanger brackets on each side and got a good start on the lower lift pivot.

Thanks for the details and pictures, your at a good point for me right now as I may be doing a tilt on mine soon. Do you know how much weight you will be able to tilt? Are you going to use hydraulic or electric ram? Your fab skills are top notch.

I'm not sure of the weight capacity of the lift, but it's a lot...the hydraulic ram is fairly large! I'm trying to build this out so it's simply heavier/stouter than I'll ever need.

Thanks for the props!

Cool, glad ya like...thanks Kim!

Not much more to add, but finished the lower pivot mounts. There will be 3/8" rubber strips between the frame and bed feet, hence the gap between feet and frame/gusset...hope to quiet some of the rattling.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Nice thanks for the info.... just may do that with mine so I can run electric cut-outs too. For track days I want to just run straight "FIRE" out the sides behind the front tires like a zoomie !!!!!

We added a bit more tonight, welding in a support bar for the back of the lift which is also the upper rear shock mount...then had to fit the sway bar in before figuring out where the shocks would lay, but we like how it all fell into place.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Working out sway bar details...apparently a 1 9/16" bar is unheard of, couldn't find replacement bushings anywhere. We ended up ordering some 1 1/2" bushings...should be fine.
Made the sway bar links/tabs tonight...baby steps.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Thanks Kim.

Fab work on the bed is done. We pulled it off for deburring and final smoothing, hope to get it into the sand blasters this next week. Now, we'll jump back into the cab again.
