Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I remember when you asked advice on do it yourself or pay someone, and I said it's easy just do it. Glad to hear you got it done. Done deal now. That roof will be lasting a long time.

We used to call this type of metal roof "agricultural" or channel drain, but you see it going on some pretty fine homes these days. Asphalt shingles plus labor has become ridiculously expensive for a temporary roof.

I had all cedar shakes on all my roofs at one time, and copper gutter. First went the roofs with very low pitch on the outbuildings. Then a big limb fell on the screen house with 12/12 pitch. Insurance paid me to repair it but between it being the great recession and the cost of cedar and copper going up so much, I put the metal on and aluminum gutter and pocketed the rest. Next, the low pitch lower roofs on the house started going. I wanted to use the ready-made standing seam on the house, but it's more expensive and getting it done was what really mattered. The ag style probably suits my place more. It's not a fancy Victorian, more of a peasant's home, being a log home built by a freed slave. When I bought it there was corrugated over old cedar shingles. This roof is the modern version of that. It's not a home for historically correct architecture, more like an example of the eras it has been through. It's typical to have different styles from different eras when improvements were done.

That roof was 30 years old and very gone. Yet, underneath that spongy mossy surface was bone dry and looked fresh as the day I built the porch. That's why I took the picture of the ceiling before opening it up. I was amazed no water damage was showing. I figured the top side would be a different story, but no. This was when Tyvek first came out

I'm going to piggy back off Warren's post. Took this photo last March as my wife and I waited on twilight for the movie to start.

I hate that the drive-ins went away, or that most did. Used to be able to take your pick in my area. Pickup trucks were made for drive-ins and now everyone drives them but the drive-ins went away

Well thank you. I'm trying to think of what a flipside could be. I guess that would be a picture of me relaxing without a tool in my hand.

How about this for a flipside? Had I used copper flashing and put a copper ridge on top, mostly the upper/steeper roof, the shakes would still be in great shape. Here is an example of how water run over copper won't allow the moss (or anything) to grow.

I haven't seen any "minion" movies, but I have an old charcoal-fed smoker that I was going to make into a burro for yard art. Cool! Maybe I'll do something like this instead.

I sold the truck and now I might sell the 39 for monies to pay for the wifes shots she takes for her Rumitoid Arthritus .. we might get another aid in paying most for her shots ,,but not sure ..

I don't feel sorry about selling as the shots help her a lot and I have enjoyed this old blue truck for close to 20 years and as for enjoying her its been going on around 45 yrs or close to it..

Trying to support our local cafe today. Due to the mandatory outside dinning only, we were dealing with a bad fly problem. Pulled mask out of pocket, poked hole in it with key, and made a drink cover!

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I drove past the outdoor area at a local tavern/charcoal house yesterday. It was packed, people wearing their mandated facial attire, and it sure as heck sounded like a live singer/guitar player. It sure didn't sound like he was wearing a mask. Made me wonder the point of 99.9 people wearing masks was. And I wondered how the drank and ate wearing a mask. I had a broken jaw and could only eat what I could get through a straw. Blender Spaghetti didn't work at all. Either too warm would collapse the straw or too cool plugged it up. At the tavern I ordered crab soup and had them put it in the blender. You know how the bartender will fire up the blender for a Daquari and suddenly everyone wants one? That happened until the bartender told them it was crab soup. I thought it was purdy dang good!

What were you doing in that bar, with a broken jaw? Looking to give it back to the guy that did it?

I'm not sure how I would have handled that, but probably!

Ever see the pictures of the '69 Power Wagon I had? After spending the evening with a fine young lady, and after pouring a huge slab in a barn that day, coming home I got hit head-on by a Chevy Van. It's a story.

I was the single guy with empty beer cans in the bed from Sunday afternoon fishing with friends at the pond in the back field of the farm I rented a house on. I was in bad shape and unconscious. That guy came up with his version to put the blame on me. For all he knew I wasn't going to make it. Well, he was married, the van was for his home medical supply delivery business and I was a single long hair with beer cans in the bed of my jacked-up 4wd, and that was the story the police proceeded with. I woke up in the hospital with a police officer asking for my consent for a blood alcohol test, which I gave after hearing the terrible thing I allegedly had done. I had no recollection of anything about a 1/2 hr prior to the accident. I wasn't charged with DUI but was found at fault.

so I'm at the Woodboro Inn, near my home with my jaw wired shut to get a bite to eat and a beer. The cook brought my food out and asked how I broke my jaw. Told him about the head-on in Walkersville and he said "You weren't riding in that van were you?". "No, I was in the pickup". "Man, that guy was trashed when he left here that night. He had others with him". I guess he had dropped them off before the accident. It was dart night and he was a team captain of the other team. He told the cops he was too busy to play that evening and just ran out there to drop off paperwork. Such a respectable citizen. There's more to the story but that's how my jaw got broke, stiches in my eyebrow and knees, and bruised kidneys but not ruptured thank God.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

My truck was ruined. I was left with driving my '55 1st design up and down the interstate until I raised money for my first K/20, a '71. My oil slick was on the RH shoulder, his skid marks started on his side, came across the line, then made a check mark back the way I was traveling. I never hit my brakes. It was right where the town bypass jugged left then right onto it's new road bed. I figure his drunk ass thought I was coming at him as the road curved to my left. My windshield was over in the grass to the right. I was struck from the left pushing the body and frame to the right at about a 90* as if struck from a vehicle coming at me from the left. Axle broke in two at the long side of the differential, frame rails bent right, motor dropped to the road. Everything indicated that it occurred in my lane, if not shoulder, but my insurance co (State Farm) never took pictures, didn't want mine, and wouldn't hire a reconstruction expert. They just paid and dumped me. Just shy of 3 years later I was served lawsuit papers. I had high limits that covered it. Actually, first it was $70k for him, but they must have seen I had $100k so they went for $28k for his wife's pain and suffering. Left a bad taste in my mouth for sure. This was 1982.

How about I show a picture I took? A happy one

I would think that the state troopers would have figured it out at the scene. I carry a lot higher insurance now, but had about what you had, in '82. More assets to cover. Did the guy that hit you have connections, or something?

BoT- Here's a pretty random picture that I took!

Cool! I see a power cord. Do the eyes light up at night? I used to take Topanga Canyon road home from the South Bay if the 405 was clogged enough. At just about the top of the hill heading northbound, there was a store with a flying pig way up on a post, about 8 feet off the ground, on the east side of the road. At night the eyes were lit up with red LEDs. I may do that when I give Petunia a new face. The one in the old picture was a piece of plywood, and the snout was a spray paint can plastic cap. Those got beat up by the weather.

Or is it a hose in yours?
