Haha I'm waiting on the painter, like always. The bed was supposed to be done two weeks ago, I called him on Thursday and he said he had some 911 race cars to do and he should have most of next week to work on it so I'm hoping to pick it up weekend after next. I got the spot in my garage all ready for her just waiting for the green light

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Talked to the painter yesterday, he said it should be done next weekend if there aren't any 911 calls on his schedule. Next weekend also happens to be the Goodguys show in Charlotte so it sounds like I have a great weekend ahead of me. In the meantime I thought I'd share my very first restomod with you guys. My first guitar. Started as a sunburst squire strat like the first picture below, now its painted candy apply red, converted from single coil pickups to seymour duncan humbuckers. I built the pickguard out of 1/8 aluminum and did all the work when I was 13. Contemplating whether I should repaint it hugger orange to match the truck or not, thoughts?

Thanks rebootit!! I was 17 when I started out, I just had my 20th birthday a few weeks ago. But I'm still younger then the average wrench turner on here. While all of my friends are blowing their money on fast food and liquor I'm over here saving every cent I earn so I can build this truck haha. I guess the gear head runs deep in my family. I appreciate the kind words, it really means a lot.

Thanks Number98. I went to mooresville on saturday after the auto fair to get some work done on the truck. My mission was to find some front springs that would give me the ride height that I want and switch out the lower ball joints. I tried to use a tool that switches the ball joints on the truck but I was not succesful and my friend who has a press at his shop was out of town so I ended up wasting about half a day trying to switch the ball joints. On the bright side I took some pictures for you guys, painter says we are still on schedule to pick up the bed saturday so fingers crossed that holds true.

I wasn't there for long. Just browsed through the swap meet area and checked out some of the cars and then ran home to work on my truck. Thanks for the kind words

Thanks Raull, in my opinion these trucks have some of the classiest looking interiors that GM ever made. I couldn't bring myself to change it up. I may add a billet steering wheel some day but that'll be about it.

Thanks man, I wish that was my college garage. That's my friends shop in Mooresville. He's letting me keep it there so it's out of the weather while I wait for the painter to finish my bed. My garage up here at school is much smaller. Thanks, now that you got the 4wd done you should build a matching swb 2wd

Yeah right. The 4wd isn't done and who knows when it ever will be. Don't give me any bad ideas.

Nada, still waiting on the painter. He said he painted the underside and the rest was supposed to get color this weekend but it still needs clear and then they have to wait for it to shrink and polish and buff the entire thing. Hopefully next week or so but I've said that a million times haha. I'll post up the pics when she's on, dont worry

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Don't you just love how the classics take a back seat to all the insurance work? That's why I didn't enjoy working at a body shop as much as I thought I would. Although, if the work is good, I bet you're fine with waiting for it instead of having it rushed and turn out bad.

Well the thing with this shop is the guy mainly paints race cars so he gets 911 calls all the time saying "We need this car done to take to the track this weekend" so he has to drop everything else and get the emergency cars done and my bed keeps getting pushed back. He does great work and he hooked me up on price so I'm willing be a little more patient then usual but its still getting old. He knocked the cab/front wrap out in a month and he's had the bed for 3 months, guess that's just how it goes
