Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Glad to see this thread still alive. I am starting to work on project again - lost my wife and am having a hard time getting anything going.

I am old with tremors and I knew I could't glue the S10 shaft onto C10 needle. I took a different approach. I drilled thru the cylinder where you attach the needle through the top with a drill the same size as the s10 stepper. I then drilled through the top with a drill sized like the C10 needle shaft. I then cut off the shaft to make a 'coupling adapter'. Put it on the C10 needle with a dab of glue.

This keeps the C10 with its correct counter weight. When I put it on the S10 speedo, it appears to have about the same space from the plate as the C10.

I ordered the red led from Radio Shack for the high beam indicator. They must have a different China supplier. While the mount appears to be the same as the thread pictues, it is too long to go between the odometer mechanism and plate. I have some small short red leds that I am going to have to come up with some way to mount.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

This looks like a good alternative to epoxy holding the center in place. Thanks

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Would a 1995 S 10 speedo work? They are listed as being the same from 95-97 from what I can tell.

I'm back in town now and put an order in for more stencils and gauge faces. I will let everyone know when I get them. Thanks.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I need a gauge face too? I just got my S10 speedo and will start on this soon. I suppose I could use my 2014 GMC to check and see if it works?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I started my dash and was having trouble lining the speedo numbers up to the marked locations. I could get 120 and 60 to line up decent but the MPH was off a hair and the 0 was way off. I was using a repop dash lens so I found a used lens to help locate the sticker. It was actually pretty easy after that because I could see the numbers without holding it to the light. I laid the number sticker on the new lens and set the old lens on the top. I aligned both lenses edge to edge and then aligned the numbers on the sticker to the old lens. The trickiest part was lifting the old lens to tape the sticker without moving it but I simply laid it back on top to make sure it didn't move. The 0 on the repop lens was off by at least 3/8 of an inch. Hope this helps someone else.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I will have them in a day or so. The last order I put in, the print shop didn't make the stencils, so I didn't get them when I was supposed to.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I’m down for one if there are any more available. I’ve got a 68 c10 dash in my 90 s10 blazer, and it needs a speedo badly

Kind of fell off the earth for a bit, but back now and have the kits available. PMs sent to all those who asked about them.

Thanks,

Very interested in this setup!

Then cut the clear plastic part, it should look like this when done.

How are you guys cutting this clear plastic out?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I usually use an air powered cut off wheel then sand the edges with a DA sander, but those tin snips in the background should work.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I got my care package Monday. I don’t have a way to host pictures, but I’ve made some good progress. I have a 3 gauge cluster, so I had to trim the pattern a little in the bottom corners, but very easy to do. After that little mod, it fits great. I’ll have the new speedometer fully mounted this afternoon.

Thanks a lot. This is a really well thought out little setup. I’ve got to imagine you put a lot of work into getting all this done

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I'm way late to this party, but thank you so much for creating this thread and sharing your excellent work and info with us. Not just anyone would do all the R&D and then explain it to us (and for free!). Most folks would wanna sell us complete converted speedos for $500 instead.

I'm going to give this a shot on a pair of '84 and '85 square bodies I'm LS swapping. Not sure if I'll be able to use the stock '80s face, or if I'll need to print a new one. But I am a draftsman by trade, and my sister has a vinyl cutter machine, so I'm hoping I can just draw up and cut whatever is required, if so.

Thanks again! Keep up the good work.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

what wired sockets are you guys using for the cluster lights? i cant find a bulb holder that is wired to fit the stock holes. i bought some from superbriteleds, t3.25 wired holders for 194 bulbs and they are too small. also tried dorman 85805 ones and they are just a little too small.

any ideas?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I've never bought new ones. I've always scrounged them from the salvage yard. They are found in most cars from the mid 60's on back. You should be able to find someone parting a 64-66 Chevy truck that would have them too.
They are also the same as a 67-72 truck AC/heater control light socket.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

ok....I'll try some trial and error and see what I come up with. was hoping to find a 2 wire socket but if not, I'll try the 60-66 sockets.
