Re: My long term 57 project
Matt,
I plan to use the joints and shaft that came with the Uni-steer rack. The pic is from the "Heisenberg" build at Delmo's in Burbank. Its a tight fit with an LS motor, not sure how it will be with your small block and the Ram-Horns! Thanks!

What motor and exaust are you running? All the ones i see im going to have to run three joints and a support bearing. Not looking forward it.

Re: My long term 57 project
My plan is run an LS3 with a modified set of exhaust manifolds.
Nate says he has a set of headers in the works for the LS, hopefully he will get it done soon! Also, Del in Burbank is currently building two trucks, 1 with an LS and the other is a SBC with Ram-Horns, so hopefully we'll se what he comes up with!

Re: My long term 57 project
My plan is to run an LS, but the Taxman hit me extra hard this year, so we'll have to wait and see!

The pedal is just mounted flat to the floor close to the original location, I plan to move it up onto the angled toe-board to get a little more legroom. Hope this helps!

Re: My long term 57 project
Well I was finally able to get some serious garage time over the weekend and made some good progress!
I was anxious about drilling the first hole in the new rails, but after a lot, and I mean a lot of measuring, I jumped to it and got it done. The new rails look great and complement the PB parts perfectly. Here are the pics!!

Re: My long term 57 project
If I can ask ... do you intend to weld the front & rear sections where they bolt on or are the bolts & nuts enough?

Nice work Chuckdriver. That is the longest steel rule I've ever seen. Perfect for this application.

Re: My long term 57 project
Thanks for the compliments guys!
For now I plan to use Grade 8 hardware to hold it all together, the C-Notch will be welded to the frame. Would be cool to sell the rails or a complete frame. Yea, the 6FT rule from Lowes worked perfect! Need to finish up the mounts and get started on brake and fuel lines.

Re: My long term 57 project
Subscribed, just love this thread.
Question about your frame rails. I need 2- 7' long rails as a sub frame for my 57 body on 05 Silvy 4x4. Hope to have them done at place in Reno Nevada. Do you happen to have the dimensions you gave your shop for the channel dimensions? I'm going to use the original 57 cross members and cab mounts. Thanks |
