So yesterday instead of focusing on the firewall, I got side tracked by my own ideas.....I'm now working on my new mirror mounts. I do not want to mount them to the door like the originals, so I'm making these brackets. I'm going to try and finish these up today and get some better pictures. I'm quite happy so far with how it's turning out. The great part is, the wing window will still operate.

Ok, the mirror brackets are done. Next weekend I hope to return to the firewall, and start building the covers for the mirror brackets. If the covers turn out ok, I think I'll end up chroming them.

Today, I cut the patch for the firewall and got it fitted in. I am going to wait until I have the cab off to actually weld it in. I also started building a cover for the mirror mounting bracket.
I've got a lot of welding and cleaning up to do, but I think it's going to turn out nice. |

Hey is that a Campbell Hausfeld compressor a 60 gallon unit? which model? how does it work out for ya? does it run constantly when running die grinders and sanders?

Looking good Mike! Looks like you got motivated and making good progress. Cool idea on the mirror mounts. Your firewall patch reminds me that I am very soon going to have to decide whether to do body work on all the patches I did around my heater core hole, or just cut it all out and replace with a flat panel for after-market AC/heat.

Progress has been very slow lately, but this weekend I did manage to take my core support apart so that I can get it powder coated. I also went to a local wrecking yard and picked up a new wiring harness, since the one that came with my engine was cut up and trashed. $30 is not a bad deal in my opinion. Started striping out the circuits that I won't need. Man what a job

Good luck with that wiring Mike! I'd have trouble just figuring out what the circuits are for, let alone whether I need them or not. Doesn't help that I know I have all that ahead of me... I anticipate much beer will be consumed while contemplating that mess

good luck with the harness! i did that same thing when i did the TBI in my M715. in retrospect, i wish i would have called howell and ordered up a new one, but after a thorough inspection and appropriate treatment of new connections and all that, it works great. its been doing fine for 4 years or so that way.

For such a long weekend, I sure didn't get much accomplished. I'm starting to realize that doing a project like this yourself is a daunting task..
I did start my wire routing. I'm nowhere close to done, but it feel good to have some forward progress. |
