Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Not sure on the mpg cause my gas gauge is pegged way past full right now. May try to fix that today.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I had my fun yester day. Went to work at like 645 am and then came home cause we closed a 10 or so am. Then we went to dinner in it at 7 pm and hit lots of ice patches. I am from colorado so it does not bother me. I just keep far away from the other cars that dont really know how to drive in this. People donw here did better then i figured they would tho.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Got time to fix my gas gauge and play with timing. Here is new curve. I dont hat any vaccum advacne put in it now. Not really sure how much i need or where it needs it. Runs smoother. Had like 26 at idle with no advace in it. Also set my rev limiter to 4000 rpm. Set both idle screws out 1.5 turns. Seems to idle good there tell i get my uego. Had driver side at .75 out and driver side at 2 out. Cant be good. I bet it will start cold better now. Any ideas what to do with my vaccum advance?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Here is the MAP table. It is measured in PSIa not sure what that is but when engine is off it is at about 15. This is how msd had it set up. Right now i have it along the bottom at 0.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
aren't there some standard timing maps for it built in?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Ya comes with 6 timing tabs. They add tons of timing tho. The middle one had about 26 degrees at idle and that is befor adding the vaccum advance.. Seems like a lot to me. But i guess i dont know a ton about this stuff. But what i have it set at now it seems to run good. Wish i could dyno tune it.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Well, Its really tough to say but with the aluminum heads and such, you can have alot more advance then with iron heads. Im guessing even more with the "vortech" combustion chambers. That being said, a generic run down for a standard iron headed old school 350 would run something like, 12* base(@600rpm), +8* centrifugal(all in by about 1800rpm), +12* vacuum advance. So for the LS to have 20* at 1000 rpm is probably just about right. And 35* total is probably just about right also.

In other words, i would have to bet that curve one or two would be nearly spot on for you.

PSIa is the absolute pressure. Atmospheric pressure (at sea level) is about 14.7 PSI. A pressure gauge reads the difference between atmospheric and your tire. For example, if your tire gauge reads 30 PSI, your absolute pressure is 44.7 PSI, gauge plus atmospheric. To further complicate things, we usually think of vacuum in terms of inches of mercury. A mild street motor usually pulls about 20" of mercury at idle. One inch of mercury is about 0.5 PSI. Sooooooo, if your car pulls 20" of mercury, and you're at sea level, your PSIa as measured by your MAP (manifold absolute pressure) is about 4.7 PSI (14.7 - 20*.5). At wide open throttle, your MAP should be very close to atmospheric pressure, ~15 PSIa. Sorry for the rambling post. The bottom line is your motor operates between about 5 and 15 PSIa on that graph. The only way you would get over the 15PSI mark is with a supercharger or turbo. Like a normal vacuum advance distributor, you want more advance under light load (high vacuum, low MAP reading). I think I have about 40 degrees of timing right now in lean cruise, ~2000 RPM. It works fine now, we'll see how that does when the weather warms up. I may have to back it off to prevent detonation in the summer. Getting the timing just right will provide you with the best power and fuel mileage possible. I'm sure you can hope on an LS motor specific site and see what others are doing there. Also, if you can optimize your timing before you tune your carb with the O2 sensor, life will be much easier. Backfires really throw those things for a loop... Good luck.

Thanks guys. I will try 1 and 2. It only takes 1 sec to do it. Kind of fun playing with it when it is running.

I went out and played around town tonight. I think the cam has gotten bigger. It lopes sometimes so good i can take foot off break and gas it it will surge forward like a blown race car. Here is video of normal idle in and out of gear. Will do a better one in morning and try to get it to hump good.

That sounds great! I bet she is gunna get with it once you have the tune all dialed in. Was it hard to setup the TV cable on the LS motor / carb combo?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
It gets donw pretty good now. I got the rev limiter at 4 and it gets there a hell of a lot faster then my old 350 ever dreamed of. Dont have to use as much throttle to keep up with traffic any more. On the tv i had this carb and bracket set up on old motor so i have not adjusted a thing. Shifts just as it did on old motor. Early in first and normal on rest of gears. Was never able to figure that one out. It may not be early as i dont have my tach yet. But only get to about 25 mph in first.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Thanks man.
I got more time to play today. I extended my fuel line from reg to carb. Does not have any kinks in it any more. Put #2 timing pill in msd box and drove him to storage with wife and kid. She is deff mine. Everytime i get on throttle she gets sucked up in back of her seat and her simile goes from ear to ear and yells do it again do it again. Think wife likes it too. Seems to run great with #2 pill. I am going to leave it alone tell i get my wideband O2 sensor in.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
What ya waitin for go get er done....I know the feeling. I had this thing stuck in a storage building for almost a year. All that planing and i still had to buy a ton of stuff over the install week end to get it in right. But i did do it in 2 days. And the second one i was sick. If a guy started early in the day and had all stuff worked out it could be done in 1 day. If i didnt spend 2 hours jaking with stupid headers mine could have at least ran friday night.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I've got half the parts bought for mine. Still need a harness, tune and fuel system. I plan on buying those next week. I may be able to start at the end of the month. I'm gonna drop it in place, but let my shop handle the fuel system and wiring. We'll see what happens.
