Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Do you have a shop or someone in mind to paint it Mike?

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I'm thinking I'm going to take it to my friend's shop down in Toquerville when it's finally ready. He'll let me do some of the work which should keep some of the costs down...Unless he has to fix it all LOL

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
So yesterday instead of focusing on the firewall, I got side tracked by my own ideas.....I'm now working on my new mirror mounts. I do not want to mount them to the door like the originals, so I'm making these brackets. I'm going to try and finish these up today and get some better pictures. I'm quite happy so far with how it's turning out. The great part is, the wing window will still operate.

Driver's side is all mocked up.
I'm going to work on the passenger side, then work on building the covers. |

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I think it looks pretty clean, curious how the triangles are held in place, will they be welded?

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Ok, the mirror brackets are done. Next weekend I hope to return to the firewall, and start building the covers for the mirror brackets. If the covers turn out ok, I think I'll end up chroming them.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Today, I cut the patch for the firewall and got it fitted in. I am going to wait until I have the cab off to actually weld it in. I also started building a cover for the mirror mounting bracket.
I've got a lot of welding and cleaning up to do, but I think it's going to turn out nice. |

It is the 60 gallon unit and does run quite a bit with the grinders running, but keeps up very nicely. I don't have to wait for it to catch back up like I did my old one. |

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Looking good Mike! Looks like you got motivated and making good progress. Cool idea on the mirror mounts. Your firewall patch reminds me that I am very soon going to have to decide whether to do body work on all the patches I did around my heater core hole, or just cut it all out and replace with a flat panel for after-market AC/heat.

Looks like Grandpa didn't opt for the flux capacitor option...

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Progress has been very slow lately, but this weekend I did manage to take my core support apart so that I can get it powder coated. I also went to a local wrecking yard and picked up a new wiring harness, since the one that came with my engine was cut up and trashed. $30 is not a bad deal in my opinion. Started striping out the circuits that I won't need. Man what a job

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Good luck with that wiring Mike! I'd have trouble just figuring out what the circuits are for, let alone whether I need them or not. Doesn't help that I know I have all that ahead of me... I anticipate much beer will be consumed while contemplating that mess

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Nice work on your patch and mirror brackets! I decided to file my old harness in the trash can because I was nervous about all the crappy wires. Good luck with it!

Thanks Nick! Thanks!!!! This harness is much better than the cut up one as far as the wires are concerned. I do have to replace some of the ends, but all in all, I think it's going to work out. I guess I'll find out in 10 years when I finally get to fire it up |

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
good luck with the harness! i did that same thing when i did the TBI in my M715. in retrospect, i wish i would have called howell and ordered up a new one, but after a thorough inspection and appropriate treatment of new connections and all that, it works great. its been doing fine for 4 years or so that way.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
For such a long weekend, I sure didn't get much accomplished. I'm starting to realize that doing a project like this yourself is a daunting task..
I did start my wire routing. I'm nowhere close to done, but it feel good to have some forward progress. |

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
That wiring looks nowhere near fun, a lot of work isn't it.
