kindah makes sence all over the world i think : if you drive a big rig with a sleeper cab or a closed van without rearwindows you dont see a thing in the inboard mirror anyway

Re: 58 GMC Project

Hi Cal 58 GMC

I have 2 questions for you:

1) Is your axle centerline on your camaro subframe the same as stock?

2) Where did you get your rear spring lowering blocks?

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "centerline"

The blocks I got from Summit Racing

Re: 58 GMC Project

My apologies, is your wheelbase the same as stock, or do you know if your camaro subframe has been moved forward to center the wheels in the wheelwells?

Thanks in Advance!

The sub-frame was already in when I bought the truck, but from what I can tell it was moved forward slightly. The wheels are setting centered in the wheel wells.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Fuchster- on the back of a saginaw pump "I am assuming that is what you are talking about" the return line is the little tube thingy. That connects to the steering box valve that is closer to the cab. The actual threaded valve on the pump connects to the valve on the steering box that is closer to the cab.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Say Julian Here in Minneapolis, When you installed your subframe, did you move it forward an 1 inch or so, or do you still have the 114 inch wheel base? If it was moved forward, what is your wheel base? thanks

I finished mounting the steering column. I had to fabricate a plate for the floor. Here's a picture of it and a few more.

Yea I actually made it to the end of November and finally put it away. There have been some warm days still with very little snow. But once it gets cold and the posibility of ice the salt goes down. I'm hoping for a short winter so I can get it out to do the 4-link.

Yeah, I got more than I would have ever imagined. My Dad seems really excited for me to have my own garage to work in. He bought me some of the essentials like a bench grinder, vast array of pneumatic tools and I got lots of other goodies. How did you do?

I spent the better part of Saturday reading every page you have and your truck is coming along beautiful. great job! I am new to the site and I am reading as much as I can and getting ideas as I get ready to tackle my own 54 5 window soon. The first thing I am going to do is get a '76 camaro subframe under it. I look forward to seeing your next pics.

Welcome to the board! Feel free to ask anyone here questions you might have. We all love working on these old truck and are always willing to shear thoughts and ideas. As for using a Camaro Sub-frame on a 54, as I understand it, the frame on your 54 is narrower then the Camaro. You might have to go with a Mustang II IFS.

the mustang suspension seems to be better too it has the rack and pinion steeringsystem wish has less play in it than the stock system making it go straight a lot eazier too
