Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Thanks rusty.
Today I focused on my hood plane, I pulled it off to find the part number on the underside. It shows to be off of a 53 Oldsmobile. I also noticed that there is a copper plating under the chrome, maybe part of the process of chrome plating? |

Then I sandblasted it and did lots of sanding. It's now ready for paint

good quality chrome work uses copper then nickel and then chrome.
are you going to prime it to fill in the pits before you paint it .. |

Here's is the plane now in primer. I still need a few more coats with light sanding in between but it looks pretty good. |

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
So I thought "why the heck not?". The light will come on with the headlights and the plane had a little groove on the bottom side so the wire can be hidden

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Thanks Ben. it's not actually that big, just the angle the pic was taken at and its not bolted down makes it look bigger.
Here is what it looks like on the truck

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Looking good buddy! Reminds me of my old setup. 57 bel air hood ornament with turn signal tail fins on the sides. Sticking with that setup when my truck is done for sure. lol

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Loving this thread man, excellent work so far. My truck finally has the cab off and a friend is helping with the body work as I am not overly skilled with a welder. But I know what you mean with finding rust everywhere. That is what happened with mine and I basically have an all new floor now when it will be done.

Good work on the hood ornament so far.
It will always make you smile seeing it up front. Of course I do like them a lot, so I am a bit biased.

Oh do I know all about this. It was my grandpas truck for me that is about the only reason I did not try to find a better cab.
