Congrats Kyle. I haven't kept up here or Instagram to see your progress.
Congrats on the baby. Glad to hear both baby and mom are doing well. |

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
I have found the time to get a bit more filler done on the dashboard over the last couple days. It is coming along nicely.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
More progress made on the dash today. I also took the GMC lettering I had cut out of the fender emblem and ground it down so it was thin and sleek. I'm still toying with the idea of using these on the dash where I removed the speaker grill. I would paint the letters the same colour as the dash so that it would be subtle. Any thoughts on this?

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
So a couple weekends ago, I made a trip out to the wrecker to get the steering column bracket that my brother stole from me. Haha guess he lost his. Anyway, I found this very nice straight upper grille moulding that I needed very badly as mine is trashed. I didn't want to play around with aftermarket parts and this piece has been very elusive up till now. I was glad to score it for $40 even though I had to take the whole mangled grille as I had no way to seperate them out there.
I also ordered a new set of defrost vents so I can make sure they fit properly in the dash. They seem to be the wrong radius in the corners but there is a pretty good chance that is just how they are. I have done some fine sanding on the passenger one to get it fitting better and am happy with the result. Might do a bit more touch ups on it and then I can repeat for the drivers side. |

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
I agree. Something about the centered one looks to busy or something. I like the lower right lettering.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
More sanding and another coat of filler today. The section over the drivers door is ready for primer now as well as the rear piller. The section along the back should be good after I sand the last coat of filler I just put down. I realized that I had sanded it a little bit square instead of a nice radius so I had to do some extra sanding which required another coat now.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
I feel like tonight was a good night on the truck. I got a pretty good amount done. I sanded the filler on the passenger corner and then filled the corner again as well as the inner roof above the passenger door, the B pillar and a bit of the lower sash below the rear window. Then while that was drying, I fit my passenger side Ac vent. It went pretty good until I tried to put the duct adapter in. The clip that accepts the screw for the top of the bezel is holding the top tab for the duct down and therefore I can't install it. My Uncle (chewychevy67) told me that it is because the clips that come with the new kits are not the same as factory. He has a factory style clip that I will try and hopefully that will work. Otherwise I may have to cut that tab off and hope that the 2 will hold it. After that, I sanded all the filler that I had applied.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
I had a bit of time to accomplish something on the truck yesterday. I got the passenger AC duct figured out. I ended up having to customize the clip for the top screw. I basically had to have it so that it was right tight to the edge of the cutout which still didn't give me enough clearance for the top clip on the adapter but at least the adapter fits in the opening now. So after trying a few things, none of which ended up working out, I cut the top tab on the vent. This gave me what I needed to get the adapter in place. I even got way lucky and the modified clip actually grabs the top tab on the adapter! I also added to the edge of the vent under the corner of the glovebox as it was formed wrong in that area and I was not liking the fit. Fits like a glove now though!

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
I was back on filler again today. I got the entire back area around the window all done and put the last coat on a few problem areas. It seems like I have been filling this area forever. Sorry if everyone is getting bored of these pictures.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
You are hanging with it! I'm sick and tired of bondo and sanding and I'm just trying to get my bed floor straight!
The drive thru garage will be a big bonus, I try to do most of my sanding and grinding outside but it doesn't always work out that way. My shop is a mess...

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
Got a little bit of sanding done today. I have a few low spots on the passenger kick panel so that should only need one more coat.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
Been awhile since I posted on your build. It's looking good so far. A new/bigger shop to work in is gonna be nice. Have the builder put in tall side walls for when you add that lift for your oil changes. Tell the wife you can sell your creeper

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”
Thanks! Haha I think I'll be right about 12' walls in there. Should be enough should I go that route some day.
