Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Hopefully it will buff right off, down to good original paint that actually will buff out if it's oxidized. Looks like cheap red paint on there now. I've used aircraft stripper on these trucks and the repaint came off leaving the original in tact. Tried a few applications of stripper that didn't do a thing, so I sanded and primed rather than strip.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I've looked at this truck 2 or 3 times and I'd swear its never been repainted. Arizona truck, the only thing I see odd about it is the right front hub has 10 studs instead of 5, the marker lights on the bed are even glass. Unbelievable truck.

Looks like a beauty.

The 10-Lug Wheels means a heavier Front Axle and a higher GVW.

That's like the GMC brochure with a yellow MH 9500 that has cast spoke on one side , Budd -stud pilot on the other side.

Dan,

Wouldn't you say that it was printed that way to show the options of both ways? (East Coast vs West Coast, lol)

This thing is in the flesh with oddball stud configuration. Quite a truck being an 80.

Maybe it's a brochure truck ha hah

That's another strange thing Tim, I'm not sure if the Emblem actually is saying "60" or "80", but if it is an "80" Emblem, I believe the 80's were not available till '62.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Good point. I just checked the pictures and it all makes sense now. The driver side is a 60 with 5 studs and the passenger side is an 80 with 10 stud. It must be built for brochures. Hey... I don't know. Sure is strange, though.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I walked around the truck for several minutes and I'm sure the pass side badge is a 60, just deceiving in the pic. It could be they had lug nuts work loose so they were able to drive in 5 more studs for safety sake, I don't know if the extra stud holes are already drilled or not. If I ever see someone around I'll ask a few questions about the truck.

This truck was for sale in Dove creek Colo for a long time, finally disappeared, wish I would have looked at it better. I don't know if you could have got the horsey smell out of it though, they rust a lot faster too. I do like the lines of the box, would make nice little camper with a 5.9 cummins in it.

I believe you, but the pictre sure looks like an 80 on my 'puter. Must be something in the paint making it look that way. I blew it up as big as it gets and still looks like an 80

Nice horse van. They often live an easy life, for a medium duty

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Finding a Tilt Cab with a Detroit will be rough. A very few were made '66-'67 with 4-53's. The 6V-53 was an option up to '74 in the 7500's with raised cabs, those were probably the most common. The 6V-71 was available some years too, but most of those were tandem axle auto racks. Good luck!

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I know it won't be an easy find, restoration, or whatever. But it's a goal I'd like to achieve if possible. All the above reasons are just the things that drives me. From the family of good old GM trucks I think something like that would be right for me. A lighter big truck with a unique and very GM style department graduate look. I should have grabber one years ago. I'd probably want to buy a nice example at this point, like the one I showed. I'd probably go on the light side, but a heavier with 6v Detroit would be nice for sure

What is the story with those Steel Tilt's? Those tires and rear axles are not RPO's.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

5 years or so ago, there was this 1967 GMC 6500 tilt cab on the Riverside CA. Craigslist. It was an equipment (backhoe, ect.) transporter, very low miles. I thought of buying it with a friend who was also interested in it, we were thinking of using it as a car transporter. It was a diesel, but not a Detroit. 478 Toroflow.......

A member has a gasser for sale here few-five years ago I wished I could have bought. I can't remember if it was a tractor or had a body on it. Maybe a car hauler. I see where the Toroflow was fairly common in the lighter trucks.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Believe it or not, the Toroflow was the most popular mid-range diesel in the U.S. during the 60's. There were a lot of them, but when they died they were usually replaced with GMC V-6's or Chevy 366/427's. Around here they were quite rare after the 70's.
