Started the teardown today.. I removed the bed, bumpers, bumper brackets, grill, hood, and then started on the front fender..







After I got the passenger side fender off I placed wood blocks on each side of the fender on the door end and then applied about 220 pounds to the center of the door side edge. This seemed to have the effect I was looking for. The profile looks much better now when compared to the door.





Before I pulled the cab I installed the sport mirrors. I used the drawings from the 67-72 manual.. I think they came out ok…


















After that I continued tearing the cab down for removal.











Cab is ready to be moved to the painter as soon as he is ready for it. In the mean time I will be removing the engine, transmission, and transfer case to get to the pacific fabrication cross member. It appears to be close to the oil pan, so I am sending it back to them to modify it.

Is that a factory mirror, mine is a 4 screw mirror in 71, wonder if it is right or not. I only have a drivers side mirror too no passenger side.

This is a 71-72 sport mirror. It is a reproduction.. I believe it is correct with 3 screws..

I don't know of any OEM mirrors with 4 holes, except for the big rectangular ones, but even most of those used 3 bolts.

My shop is at Lake Eufulua. I only get to work on it on the weekends.. This weekend I will being pulling the drivetrain back put of the frame, I need to remove the engine crossmember and send it back to have some work done on it. I am also waiting to hear something from Kyle, so that I can bring him some stuff...

I hear ya on the remote shop business. Mine is 25 miles from me in Yukon, and I get to pay $3.20 in turnpike fees each way as an added bonus.

I know Kyle is working on a truck from Texas that is going to be show quality, so that is going to be time intensive. When did he say he would get to your project? My Skylark is in line after you, I think.

It cost me a full tank of gas each time I go. but it is worth it..

He contacted me yesterday.. Talked like it would be soon.. but he is going to fit me in as his time allows, so he may be working on another as he does mine..

I think I saw in an earlier post that you used a 2wd trasmission, is that correct? Are the required changes to get it to mate up to the NP205 trasfer case the same for both the 2wd and 4wd units? I fall into that category of scared to death of tranny work, body work is my thing, and was wondering why you went the way you did. Thanks. Great work by the way.

Rusty,

The process on the transmission is the same for either. I went with 2wd because that was what was available. I completed the work in less than a day. That included new clutches and seals. I am just the opposite of yourself.. I am much more comfortable with the electrical and mechanical work than the body work.. Good luck with your truck..

Decide to eliminate some of the terminal blocks and use delphi 150 and 280 sersis connectors. This should cleanup the wiring some.

Painted the electronics mounting plates and did all the wiring I could do before the final install.






Will be working on getting the radiator and some of the other smaller items painted tomorrow.

I went back and started to peruse your thread and didn't get far before I noticed that you bought a Texas Blaster. I have been milling around about buying one, It looks like it is doing a good job on your project, how do you like the unit? and what kind of CFM aircompressor are you feeding it with? I have a shop compressor that is rated at 16cfm and I am in the process of upgrading my service trucks aircomp with a 24cfm output pump and was going to piggyback the two to get some good volume. I like the fact that they are made right here in the US by Americans and have been around for some 65yrs.
