Re: post up your camping pics
our first glimpse of the lookout....
but there is some 3 feet deep snow on the second last corner....i made it right around here then just bogged, wife got about 10 feet further up the road before her run ended, she has 25" tires, i got 23's, plus she had the extra weight of my son, we had to leave his Outlaw about a mile or so down the road, not nearly enough clearence and it's only 2wd. we hiked the last bit in snow was not bad around the lookout, sun hits it most of the day.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
thanks guys!
if you want to see some STUNNING country, you need to check out Stein Valley, which we went by today with a slight stop... actually headed up to Monkey Wrench, a great place north of Lytton to ride, just took the wifey's truck to check out some things for our holidays later this summer, been lots of wash-outs and damage to all our roads this winter with the retarded amount of snow AND rain we've had.... our back yard headin' out, north side of mt Cheam Jamie Davis ( tv show Highway thru Hell) got a new dodge wrecker for cars, did'nt quite get the pic. Hope BC no idea what this is- anyone? Yale BC i know what this is! been sitting in that same spot for prob 7 or 8 yrs now... waterfall right from the very top all the way down |

Re: post up your camping pics
that's Nahatlatch valley on the other side of the river
and between those mountains is Hidden valley, pretty much only foot or bike/quad accessible. Hidden is squeezed in between Nahatlatch and Klowa mts. will be going there later this yr dawg pit stop- but he cant get to the water....not good, temps are climbing in the canyon today |

Re: post up your camping pics
coming in to Lytton, gets extremely hot here, quite often it is BC's and Canada's hot spot of the day. thankfully with the hi thin cloud it was only around the upper 80's

Re: post up your camping pics
leaving Lytton we took hiway 12 thru the upper Fraser Canyon- which has the distinction of being the most expensive road to maintain in BC. it is extremely windey with high sharp drop-off's and is very narrow, luckily we turn off before we start hitting that carp...
heading up our turn to Monkey Wrench. rough gravel road that climbs about 1000 ft in half a mile right at the start. was also VERY dusty, wife was "complaining" 'bout taking her truck up it.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
some nice area's to ride, just cost me a fortune in fuel bringing the crew up here...
talked the wife into "checking out" Stein on the way home. her RA was giving her some hake, so we just went to the entrance of the park. two ways to get across the Fraser, the reaction ferry, which was lined up, or the CN train bridge |

Re: post up your camping pics
the ferry crew has a schedule, but they pretty much set their own hrs.....can be hit and miss, so the local natives started using the CN train bridge to get across. they fixed it so no more accidents could happen, it hangs off the side of the train bridge...

Re: post up your camping pics
Stein is a little over 400 sq miles of UN-TOUCHED land, prob the only un-screwed piece left in North America. there is no roads, no vehicles, no bikes, atv's- nothing. you go into Stein on foot only, nothing else. it is truly spectacular in there. when my son is a little older and bigger, i will take him in there.

Re: post up your camping pics
actually there is a third way to get across the Fraser up there.
this little known susp bridge. it's actually a water pipeline across the river a couple miles north of Lytton. no way in haaaaay was the wife going out on it.... the thin cloud made a rainbow around the sun |

Teaser shot. Desert trip 2017.
100_0926 by Bigassgas8.1L, on Flickr Larry's rolling roadshow of trucks made another run to the desert last week. We've got a ton of photos and video to pour over but the trip report will be coming soon. I have to say this was probably the most fun I've had on 4 wheels for sure. Central/Southern Utah is an amazing place to see. It's even more fun to wheel. Day one off road had us on the wrong trail that we took anyway and it turned into the best off road trail I've done personally. Obstacle one after another. We made about 12 miles total off of I-70 and it took all day to do it. Stay tuned...

Re: post up your camping pics
went to Skuzzy mountain today...
named for the only vessel to ever make it threw Hell's Gate in the Fraser canyon. the Skuzzy was built specially for the canyon with a multiple compartitioned hull, one of the strongest engines available, and a huge winch on the front. The Skuzzy made it on the 3rd attempt with the engine going full out, the winch pulling, and 150 chinese railroad workers pulling on ropes from the cliffs. Every time the Skuzzy went out into the Fraser, they had to do hull repairs from the rocks and the pounding she took. There is not many pics of the Skuzzy as it was only in service for 2 yrs 'till the railroad was threw the canyon, then it was dis-mantled. the hull sat at Kanaka bar for yrs moldering away... heading up-river for Hells Gate little safer by road now |

Re: post up your camping pics
the Coquihalla has really become the main way into the BC interior the last couple yrs, with a major increase in people, so been going up the canyon lately, not nearly as crowded...
pretty quiet on this stellar day... 'till i hit this guy....and just because people can afford something, does'nt mean they know how to operate it...for half a hour this id**t in the coach could not seem to make it over 25 mph....grrr, where's the next passing lane... actually went by my turn off and went a few more miles up the canyon to the Cisco bridges at Siska. was hoping for a rare shot of 2 trains on the bridges at the same time, but as ya can see.... |
