Re: 56 shop truck build

the wifes truck is going to get a full IFS front clip, just not sure what route we're going to take yet. Her frame has a 73 Nova clip welded in right now but it wasn't done properly. I'm going to keep my truck with the dropped axle ad do hers up right.

Thank you.

Our daughters grad photographer sent me this shot yesterday. She took it as my son and I cruised away from the photo shoot and I had no idea she even took it

Cool truck man. I'm a little late to the show but enjoyed reading the thread! Killer work and enjoyed the paint job.

Re: 56 shop truck build

Re: 56 shop truck build

It all depends on what kind of ride you want. The 2 types of suspension will make for completely different handling truck. The axle and mono leafs are an improvement from the factory set up, but still no where as smooth as any ifs set up

Nice ride!

I sure don't visit here enough anymore. Didn't realize you were back on the forum and also back in Flin Flon. Was actually up there in July to do some fishing.

Last time I saw you on a forum you were just getting into airbrushing. Do you have a photo album anywhere that I can see some work? I finally made an effort to start learning a bit despite owning an airbrush for a long time.

Re: 56 shop truck build

Well, with winter creeping up on us soon, it's almost time to out the dirtbag pickup in he shop to hibernate until May again. But it gives us time to make a few changes. After putting almost 2000 miles on the truck, I think I'm going to ditch my dropped axle and mono leafs front set up up and weld in a Nova clip I happen to remove from the wife's chassis. The dropped axle is a great way to go but our roads up here are so bad, it demands a little extra comfort. So along with that we will be swapping the radiator for a new one to control the cooling and we will have time to install some bed wood

Re: 56 shop truck build

i had the chance to buy an entire 79 Camaro for $500 before i started my build and didn't grab it, I'm kicking myself now for not going that route. But I guess thats all part of the hobby right? They're truly never done. For the amount of cruising we do and the condition of the roads up here, it's time for some added comfort

Re: 56 shop truck build

Good luck with the improvements on the truck. The roads are a little bit better here around Winterpeg but you're right the season is short. Two more shows to do here for this year, by the time I'm done ill have put 5000 miles trouble free on my truck this season not bad for the first year of cruising.

Re: 56 shop truck build

RIGHT ON bud! that's awesome to hear. Looks like you're wiping it up with the trophies at shows to. The truck is well deserving of any awards it gets, what a beauty.
After piling on 2000 miles with this dropped axle on our roads, Im ready for something smoother

Yours being a Chevy will be a little easy'er not having to deal with the rad support crossmember like the Gmc. Are you planning on grafting it in the rails or running it under Lux style?

Re: 56 shop truck build

Lux style all the way. It's a lot easier and you get a lot of steel to weld to. I'll have to deal with the rad support piece on the wife's 58GMC when we mate it to the caprice frame it'll be sitting on

Re: 56 shop truck build

Here's a shot of the Nova clip when it was welded into the wifes truck by a previous owner. We cut the frame and kept the clip so now I have to spend an hour with a grinder and cut the plates off and start cleaning up the clip. I have new poly bushing for everything so I'll take it all apart, wire wheel it all and give it a fresh coat of paint in most spots before welding it on

Re: 56 shop truck build

It was the oddest thing. He had set the clip to match the stock ride height. When you drove the truck, it felt top heavy. I think he did it so he wouldn't have to make any mods to the rad cradle support personally because it all lined up. It was a hack job to say the least but the guy drove it daily like this for 15 years

So now we are going to install it properly into my shop truck

Re: 56 shop truck build

Time is counting down rapidly before the old truck gets put away for the 8 months of winter. The wife and I had a date night last night so we took the Dirtbag, got some take out and found a nice quiet place to take in the fall colors.
