Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Hello First C10
It's been raining here in California at least in my area most week ends and I can't work on the truck in my garage no room to move around. I have to move my truck out side to do anything. I did buy electric fan set up last week and Monday was a holiday so I was able to drop off some part at my powder coater.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I totally understand that's a big truck and that garage. Yeah it's been raining a lot on the side of the hill also. I just thought I check in on you see how you were doing. I'm going to be Ordering my vintage air so I can get the holes and any mounting brackets added to the cab before I send it off to get the body work done. Glad to hear you're getting some stuff done.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I have my cab set up for the Vintage Air kit. you have to cut 2 round holes and 1 square hole in the dash for the vents. the kit comes with a plate to cover the heater box hole. I welded up the heater box holes on my cab. The coil that goes in front of the radiator fit like factory one for me. I added a second grommet for the lines that go through the core support. you can get an extra grommet from any of the suppliers for the factory set up works good. I also got the factory bracket to support the line under the battery box.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

How did you mount the evaporator and fan assembly on the inside?

Evaporator coil mounts in front of the radiator and the electric fans mount behind the radiator using the 4 bolt hole from the stock fan shroud.

I think it's the condenser coil that mounts in front of radiator. The evaporator is the inside the cab piece. How does the vintage air blower assembly and evaporator mount inside the cab? Where you had to drill the holes in the firewall for.
Thanks Scott

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I worked on getting the wiring harness out of my 2004 Suburban I bought about year ago. The city sent me a letter to get my trucks off the dirt by Thursday last week or they will fine me $100. So I did get 2 of them off the dirt but the Suburban is mostly gutted just need the wiring and brake parts and then I can drop it off at the wrecking yard. Ho and I did get the seat out of the Suburban and in my 71 they fit real good. just have to bolt them in place.

I have not installed anything in the cab yet. I do know that we loose most of the glove box. The kit comes with a new glove box that is about 3" deep.

Oh ok. Was there a pattern or template to identify the location for the holes in the firewall?

A buddy of mine used the filler piece that vintage air sent with the kit. He said that the bolts that hold the inside piece are the ones that go through the firewall filler piece and firewall. I plan to try and install studs to the inside of the cabs firewall.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I'm have a issue with the wiring that plugs into the oil pan and the slave cylinder for my clutch. has anybody seen this issue with other builds. the engine is out of 2004 truck and the NV4500 transmission is out of a 1995 truck with 95 factory bell housing. I think the plug fitting on the side of the oil pan is for oil level.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Hello 7dee2
yes they are comfy. full power adjustable and heated. they do need to be recovered as the leather is cracking and damaged they came out of a truck that has 245, 000.00 miles on it.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I almost got the duel electric fans installed. the shroud fits the radiator like they were made for each other. I was able to use the old shroud bolt locations using the brackets that came with the fan set up. just have to finish up the bottom bolts.
