Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Back to my never ending project. Newton's Third Law of Motion states, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” So when I lowered the rear of my truck it made it level with the front of my truck but now the bed of the truck was going to be another issue. I didn't want to raise the bed too much coz I want my new wheel tubs to be seen.
My bed floor in one of the photos is card board and the metal floor is not the finished product either that's just the template as well and the differential hump will be the same color as the truck. Keep in mind it's still all mock up, but might change it out completely if it doesn't come out the way I envisioned it. Trying to keep it simple but be a little different. LOL, my idea might make you say ... WHAT THE..... is he doing? Let me finish and hopefully it will make more sense. I have been a little distracted with another project that's why I haven't gotten too much done with the truck. I am building my second smoker this one is a vertical smoker, hope to be done with it soon. Did manage to break away and do some repairs to the roof of the truck and primer more of the cab.

BC I like the look of the bed floor with the strips. Never seen that before and it looks cool.
The smoker is making me hungry! |

No I haven't finished the smoker yet, almost done though. This is my second smoker, I will have a couple of racks in there and the rest of the ribs/meat will be hanging up with meat hooks. It will hold a lot more meat then the current smoker I built and use all the time. Below is a photo of my Big Baby smoker.

BTW lower50 really diggin' your build, very kool ryde for sure. I saw this Chevy Advance Design school bus at the 2nd Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Machine & Muscle Car Nationals a couple of months ago and thought you might like this. It's powered by a 5.9 Cummins Engine, with a NV4500 5-speed manual transmission behind it.

Thanks for droppin' in again RockinKees. That bed floor is just the template, so I have high expectations for the final product.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Some nice ideas for the bed. I've been trying to figure out what to do with my Porterbuilt in my '57 without losing all the bed space. My wife insists luggage needs to fit for road trips.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Thanks for stoppin' by. Yeah they were a labor of love, I knew what I wanted them to look like but wasn't sure if my hands could do what was in my head, lol. But they came out better than expected.
Btw your truck is killer, that stance and the tire/wheel combo is just off the chain.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Just keep searching the net for ideas then create your own thing. I can't remember where i saw it but one guy had a station wagon style luggage rack in the bed of his truck, I think it was on slides and it was easily removed. Tell the wife you want to pack lite & don't want to ruin the look of the bed,

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
I'll have a hard tonneau cover on it. I'll probably go stock height for the front section and raise it for the dropmember and run it at that height to the back. I'll have a place to stash the air tanks, batteries, and other components. One of the reasons to build the truck is we do a lot of weekend road trips in the southwest and longer runs up to Wisconsin for family stuff. The tonneau cover is easily removed if needed.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
I have been working on the truck but progress is slow coz I had to complete my new vertical smoker for a big Bar-B-Q coming up. So here are a few shots of what I built and coming after this are some up date photos of Donnie's rear Jag clip in his '57 Chevy long bed(now a short bed)
