Re: Die-cast 67-72

It`s the shortbed GMC kit that I have a few of.The re-issue that came out around 1990.I want to end up getting two short fleetside beds so I can build a Chevy and a GMC.I haven`t been building kits lately, though.I`m just collecting. But,I`d like to gather the stuff to make a cool display with a variety at some point.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Man,that`s impressive. How many did you say you have?I think I posted my truck kits in this thread some pages back.A couple 67-72 kits have been added since. It`s slowed down since the ones I want don`t show up very often,if at all. They also go for to much most of the time. There was this`63 Fleetside,1st year AMT,that came with a Triumph motorcycle. It was hanging in a fair price range.I put in my maximum bid and went to bed.The next morning it had sold at over $200.If I had the money I`d do it.But,my hi-rollin`days are done,at least for now.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Ok,that explains why I see the trucks kits I hadn`t noticed last night. You`ve got quite a few of the 67/72 kits.I really like the AMT `67 Fleetside with the Kevorkian Bros. Amoco wrecker on top.I see you have a few GMC Fenderside shortbeds, too. And,one of the originals, same as me.I knew I had one and I bought one to build. Then,I saw a sealed one on Ebay so I bid on that before the other arrived because the price was right.I went to put the one away and realized I already had bought a duplicate way back when they came out that was still sealed.I picked up the one I had already opened and realized it didn`t feel right.I had about completely built it back then (nothing glued) and forgot about it!! I think it`s pictured back on these pages somewhere(pg.12).It`s just the beginning, but enough to put on the shelf. There are a few more 67/72 kits added now.I`ll take another picture when I get My AMT `70 Fleetside next week.

My resin 90s Dually fenders on my 1968 longbed Dually project. Dually rims and 67-68 front end are resin as well.

AMT made all the years. If you look at my first picture you can see a 68 to the left a 67 in the middle and to the right is the long bed step side 72.

That `68 you have is an MPC,I just can`t picture the`68 AMT.I`m sure they made one.I also wonder about`71.Since there was the SierraGrande model,I wonder if there was a`71 Chevy.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

AMT MPC ERTL are all the same company. There was a model kit for every year. The problem is that it was only out till the next year as they changed the mold every year to make the new one until the 72 chevy fleetside kit and thats the only one they reproduce. On some of the early 71-72 kits you can see the 70s grill on the backside of the 71-72 grill. In a few I will post pictures of all my 67-72 truck kits.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Were they the same company back when these models came out?I didn`t think that happened until later.I know Ertl wasn`t in the picture until years later.General Mills owned MPC by the end of the 67-72 era.I know AMT and MPC still used different business addresses and it was either one competing against the other that made the dealer promos. The only AMT `69 kit I have is sealed,so I can`t compare it to the MPC`69 kit. But,looking at MPC and AMT they have minor differences.I always figured they were still two companies since they both made the same models in a given year.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Well I'm not to sure if back then they were the same. I think it was like GMC and CHEVROLET . My AMT 1967 is the same casting as my MPC 1968 so I'm not a 100% sure. I have almost every version of these kits by all three and they are look to use the same castings with a few minor differences. So I would think they were all working together if they were different.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Yeah,I don`t know the history on the buy-out or merge deal. But,I know they were operating as two independant companies at that point and had two seperate lines of products.I wish I had a source on what kits are out thereI just go by memory.I just won`t be happy until I have the rest of the kits I don`t have yet. When I have a better place to display built kits I`ll build ones I have planned.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Yeah I dont really know myself about all the history on all the companys. I try but not many people know. I think alot of them shared molds or just did name changes as I have seen a kit go by so many different companys and it was from the same mold. Usualy not with the Revell or Monogram kits though. I just bought a 48 ford convertable from Testors on ebay today. I know when it first came out it was made by IMC and after Testors it was reproduced buy another company that I have not heard of. Now here is another one. Do you remember the Dodge L 700 semi? It first came out as an IMC then ERTL than again by AMT. Few years go by and Testors repops it. Now last year its offered by Lindberg and its the same casting so I just dont know who owns who or if they passed molds around or what. I also know that in the 67-72 kits there is a 2 piece front grill and bumper deal for 69-72 as well as a 1 piece casting. Some of my promos of the trucks are the same way.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Thet A700 Dodge has been around.I don`t know what`s ever been up with Lindberg. They mostly put out hokie vehicles that no one was interested in,like Ramblers,Chryslers,,and Cadillac Ambulamces, and left the lions share of the market to the other companies.I remember that Dodge A700 being made by Lindberg.Of all models to bring back, why bring that one back?I never liked Monogram, either, which is one with Revell now.Momogram always made the funky 1/24th scale when everybody else was 1/25.They never seemed as accurate in details either.Revell was good. But,I hated how alot of the kit`s bodies came in pieces.I guess it`s all about skill and piecing a body together takes alot of that.If you can`t get that right, forget the rest.I think I liked AMT best beause of what kits they made and options on how to build them. They also just made cars and trucks, which was all I was interested in.When I was growing up,if you said "model kit" people would spark up and start talking about the ships and airplanes they made.I used to think,"To heck with them. All you do is take the parts and put them together...Big Whoop!"I wanted to customize and make a machine I wished I could drive.
How about Aurora? They did a few vehicle kits, but mostly movie monsters and other figurine-type kits. They did get into the HO car tracks, though.I was hooked on that bigtime.

OOO-Man! AFX slot cars I have a huge collection of them. I can fill a two car garage with a freeway layout with almost no space to walk through. Just dont have any friends that even know what they are and when they see them they say its boring. I always tell everyone that I was born in the wrong era as everything I'm into no one my age even know about.

That`s cool!I was thinking how lucky I was to grow up with all this stuff.I appreciated it all back then and now that it`s vintage just adds to the cool factor.I got my kids into these things,so we`ve been a vintage toy house for years.I just have a 4'x8' layout (not set up) and need to get some vintage cars.Someday I`ll have a club room set up with all this stuff.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

What's new????

Anyone know of any new diecasts - Hotwheels, Johnny Lightning, Jada, etc.

I have at least two of all of the 1/64 that I know of. Need something new for my fix.

I have attached my list of diecasts (most larger diecasts are not on my list). Does anyone know of other 1/64s that are missing from my list. I am only looking for 67-72 Chevy trucks and blazers.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Nothing new that I know of. I guess you're gonna have to start collecting other years, just to fill in the time.

And this all started for me because of that one Hot Wheels red '69 Custom Chevy Stepside put out in 2002. I never owned a Hot Wheels before then.
