Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Well I'm roundin up ideas for the truck since its current setup is decent I want it to have a little more power and durability all around so here's what I have

Current setup:
350 sbc less than 200 HP
Th350 trans Very solid rebuilt three years ago
12 bolt 3:73 gearing dog legger rear end very solid
Disc brakes up front with mcgaughys 2.5" drop spindles and stock worn springs
Drum brakes out back solid but wanting disc
E-brake cable broke midway never been fixed since I got it

Dream setup:
350 sbc 300 HP on carb style motor
700r4 overdrive tranny
12 bolt 3:73 Richmond gears with eaton posi
Front suspension stays with the spindles
Rear brakes upgraded to wildwood calipers and rotors (what do I need for swap or can I just buy the kit?)
Bag the truck manually

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

I plan to swap everything out in the next two months in one swoop so the truck isn't down long and I can work out any kinks before I do the brothers show this summer so I'm trying to figure out all that ill need for when I do this the motor won't be much change other than more power, new headers and what not. The trans will be longer an has the overdrive so new crossmember? And the linkages for the column to act correctly? And then I'm not sure if I can just do the kit for disc brakes in the rear end and what not. Should I put the question elsewhere in the forum for more depth in what I should prepare for?

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Well I'm hearing multiple opinions so far as far as rebuild an older motor save a few bucks if it's solid, buy a long block from gm and have that new motor smell, run 3:73's youll be fine, 3:08's work better with the 700r4's...

lotta stuff to process may be nixing the posi at this point so I can afford the more major stuff

I'm going with a 3.08 rear, and a $330 spartan locker instead of posi for a budget, streetable setup. I have some 3.40 gears that I might not be using if you want a nice medium... I'm kinda torn between 3.40 and 3.08 but leaning to 3.08 since I'm just looking to cruise.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Becoming harder to decide if I should rebuild this motor I have or just buy a crate motor and be done with it. Obviously a little more expensive but if I plan on putting a lot of miles on this thing where's the negative after that?
