Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I have spent the day cleaning up two of my "Custom 10" emblems. Paint stripper and Bar Keeper's Friend worked great on the one and Goo Gone is doing a fair job (slow though) on the other.

Apparently a previous owner used a caulk-like or silicon substance to help it adhere to his truck at some point.

I'm amazed that the disc brake conversion is there .

I'm hoping to find a wrecked/rusted out Suburban with the larger drum brakes to put on my '69 C/10 but I'da prolly grabbed this disc bake kit the instant I saw it .

I drew up and water jet cut a piece of aluminum for my Speedhut gauges. I think it turned out pretty cool. just cut the old plastic out and riveted on the new panel. easy peasy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

This E-brake hardware cleaned up nicely. Less the clips anyway. I'll have a pot of new nuts and washers to use, but somehow I end up cleaning up the old anyway.

Sure takes a while, but white vinegar & WD-40 hasn't failed me yet. I'll have these black zinc plated or phosphate coated.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

All I got done today was more cleaning up on a used fender emblem. Evaporust soak took off all the road grime the silicon caulk had trapped. I got nearly all the rust off it too, some seems trapped in the pores.

I want to do more caulk removal before injecting the nail polish.

I just put on a set of Taylor cut-to-fit wires with Moroso wire looms, (was having issues with a few wires being too short and laying across the valve covers). Seemed to turn out good!

Drove it. I've been having issues with the truck shutting down. Surprisingly, it is RPM noise from the MSD ignition box affecting the pickup wire for the FiTech efi system. I tore my wiring harness apart, separated the wiring between the efi and ignition and now it's running well again. Very interesting but frustrating too.

Got the amp guage working...not real exciting. Bearly moves with the power turned on. Thinking about upgrading to the 76+ volt meter kit. Have to find out how extensive the modification is to the cluster.

Not that bad. Takes some effort of course, but no problem stopping. I'm a little wary on these crazy freeways out here though.

A little more cleaning on the emblem, more of the of the caulk came off. Just what's around one stud left now. It's back into Evaporust soak.

Post Drum Brakes

I added a stock power booster to my '69 SB, it really reducexd the pedal effort a lot .

Now, even SWMBO can drive it although she refuses to do so .

Still cleaning the emblem and making great progress! Nearly all of the old caulk is off now, just a tiny bit left in a crevice.

Not so much what I did to my truck as what I did for my truck. Just got done ordering a new AC Delco HEI distributor and a pair of United Pacific LED tail light assemblies. The old girl's a money pit but I love her just the same.

Replaced the useless brass float that came with my fuel level sending unit with a plastic float out of a Jeep CJ. The lack of quality control at these aftermarket manufacturers continues to amaze me.

Post Carby Floats

Interesting as modern plastic floats often get soggy with ethanol and sink .

Doesn't TOMCO (NAPA) still make good brass ones ? .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Among other things, I learned how to manually turn an engine. I pulled the plugs & gave the cylinders a shot of fog oil.............................Turning the crank pulley by hand is a real ball buster for this frame, but it works. However, this tool on the flex plate makes it super easy. Another board member recommended it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
