Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I didn't do anything to my truck but was on the way home and the City had blocked off a main intersection for road repairs so I went down a back alley and lo and behold there was 68/69 GMC with a canopy sitting in a back yard with 90's Lincoln in fornt of it. Wife was with me so I'll go do some investigation when I'm alone and yes I'll get pics..

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Went to check the cam lash and found it would not move at all without deflecting the cover. I have not a clue what might have caused this. Cover comes back off and it will be adjusted again. Gasket was destroyed so now I have another set of waterpump gaskets and a front seal! Yay!

Not today but Thursday I met my buddy from Illinois at the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville Ky. Had a real good weekend. His saddle colored 68 with the old topper is very cool.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

New ride & Blue ride pic as promised....really happy with the '98...need to diagnose a warm engine hesitation & all will be good in the hood
Getting Raymond's timing chain & gears replaced will take care of that nasty disturbance in the force, as well

Installed a coolant recovery tank. Used one from a 1980ish Monte Carlo. GM part number 14085692. Made a couple brackets for the engine side mounting tabs. Fits perfectly between the battery and hood hinge.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Drove it down to the corner store for beer, and the whole dang parking lot was packed with a car show I didn't even know was going on.

They directed me to a spot I didn't see, and they really liked the truck! ...of course.

Never been to a car show before, I had a great time!

Nice family orientated folks there!

Yes I missed front end Friday, but that doesn't really matter huh.

Started pulling the rear end apart to do a rebuild and Eaton posi install. Took the back lash on the old set.

Yes, that blue is just about the same color as my wife's eyes. Easy to look at.

As for the beer, I'm reminded of this "joke". A guy's wife goes away for the weekend, and when she comes back, notices that there aren't many beer cans in the recycle bin. She asks him about it, and he says, "Well, that's my 'listening juice'."

Hey thanks for the complements guys.

Gentleman that sold me the truck said his young daughter picked out the color.

Didn't know that was actually a factory color until I saw that color chart posted here.

It is DAR 2188 Medium Blue.

...OK, back to the "suit case"...

HA!

Looks like it was made for these trucks.I saw in the past someone had done this but didnt have the year car or part # to find it. Thanks for posting that. What do the brackets look like? I assumed it might just bolt to the inner fender.

The tank has 3 tabs. One at the front near the battery and the two you can see in the picture. The front one fits flat to the inner fender. I bent up 2 U shaped brackets 1/2 tall and 3/4 inch tall with a welded nut for the tabs you can see and pop riveted them to the inner fender.

I think these tanks are getting harder to come by. If you search on that part number a lot of parts vendors show them out of stock. I found that one on eBay for about $35 plus a $4 cap at Oreilly.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

That looks like the late '70s to '80s burp tanks for just about every big GM car. I have one that my FiL mickey-moused onto the driver's side fender well, complete with a kinked 7 foot long hose.
