Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just came in from making the new battery cables.
Dad helped me with his massive crimper....that thing would cost several hundred if not more than a grand these days. I used glue-lined heat shrink on each end....pretty happy. |

Tracked down my dead headlights problem to the dimmer switch. 12 dollar BWD replacement fixed it right up!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I fixed my passenger side mirror. I used S/S tie wire to keep the mirror together so it want break again.
The s/s conduit has rusted a part inside the mirror. So I slide it back together and wired it up so it can't come a part.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
How bad was it taking the rear end out? I want to remove mine to change the hubs, breaks, wheel cylinders, axle seals, pinion seal?, and diff gasket. And to knock the rust off and paint it black again. Nervous when it comes to releasing the tension on the springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I brought my truck home finally. Got the garage cleaned up so she would fit. It's a 72 Cheyenne Super long bed. Took the old seat cover off to reveal the houndstooth seats. As soon as I saw them it brought back so many memories of those seats itching my legs while sitting on them. Me in my 80's shorts complaining to my dad that they itched. Haha.
Also put some new to me rims and tires on it. Getting excited again about working on it. After taking to a forum member on the phone about selling it, he talked some sense into me. Thanks Greg. As you can see from the Bergstrom AFB sticker, the last time this truck was a daily driver was around 20 years ago. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Pops rode in my truck a few times before he died, he said it was nice, I don't plan to sell it .
I wish I'd had the opportunity to get some of the cool old cars he owned back in the 1950's and 1960's : 1937 Bentley St. James Coupe, 195? Mercedes 600, others I no longer recall .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Who did you buy from? Will those Ridetech shocks fit any lowered truck or are they specific to Ridetech's suspensions?

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I bought my kit from AZ Pro Performance. I'm not sure on fitment. I believe the rear shocks are what they sell as a stand alone shock, but I think the fronts might be specific to this kit and have a shorter stock. I believe they do sell shocks that are not part of this kit with a longer stroke.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I picked up my carburetor from the shop. Also bought a new Fuel Pressure Regulator and a Fuel Gauge to see what PSI my fuel pump is putting out. Hope to put the carb on this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I haven't done anything but drive it to the grocery store last night for milk. It may sound stupid, but I enjoy clicking that high beam switch on the floor instead of clicking the stalk on the column.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
To Dad's 72.
I had to cut both U-bolts because they were frozen but really wasn't bad.Support your truck on jack stands on a firm surface.Block the front wheels. I know my truck is in the yard but it is clay that is dry and hard as a rock.Put a jack under the center of the rear end assembly and apply light pressure with the jack.Remove your shocks, brake lines and such. Then you can let the rear end down . Both ends of the springs are bolted so they will not fly out. Keep the jack under the rear end with light pressure and remove the bolts that hold the bottom of the springs. Now you can lower the jack and work on the U-bolts.The springs can just stay mounted to the frame unless you are changing them or cleaning them for paint. I highly recommend using a penetrating oil and letting it soak.My truck spent most its life in Alaska and then Texas so rust is not much of a problem.Don't think they use salt on roadways in Alaska.By the way I love your truck! Put on new battery cables and tested the lights. Most work. I'm going on to next step: starting the engine.

Thank you for the information. This will help me get that rear end out. I crawled under it and saw those bolts that hold the spring in. I will give it a shot and get that rear end checked off my to do list. All the tips on here make this place really awesome. |
