Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Been daily driving my '67 for the past 10 days or so. Big grin is about t be gone now that the rain's a comin' so I'll have to put her back in the shop and go back to the normal DD.
My 4 year old has been enjoying the ride up front in the big girl seat too ( thanks to the 3 point belts I installed her seat fits safely in there now )! -klb

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I was experiencing some intermittent popping on hard acceleration, so I decided to install a Pertronix 1181LS. It has lobe sensing, so no ring to mount below the rotor. It took less than 20 minutes, including R&R the distributor and setting the timing. I did find out that my points mounting screws were loose, but no more popping and now it starts instantly. BTW, I drive it almost daily.

Electronic Ignition Upgrade
Don't forget to open the spark plug gaps to .040" ~ you'll be amazed and pleased by the boost in power .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
It really does work, you'll be well pleased .
Basic 7th grade physics . _any_ breakerless ignition drives the system to better output, opening the gaps a little bit forces the coil to provide hotter sparks . I had an old '76 GMC with 292 that burned lots of oil , added '77 Nova HEI dizzy and opened the gaps to .070" (too much !) and it ran great, stopped smoking and flew through the California smog test easily . Even points ignition systems run better with .035" , an old racer's trick from the 1950's . .040" is a good balance for the Pertronix . FWIW, I have a few twenty plus year old Pertronix Ignitor systems that still work perfectly and have never hiccuped nor failed ~ those who'll tell you they're unreliable are lazy and never took the time to ensure the coil was correct for the Ignitor .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Today I brought my new-to-me 1968 fenders to my house and piled those onto my queen-sized bed. I also changed the truck's oil and put on a new filter. I removed the old hoses, cleaned the water necks, and bought all new hoses.

Temp gauge needle fell off in the 70s. Located it in the bottom of the cluster. Squeezed the barrel and was able to press it on the shaft. Before Before close. After close After... Its amazing how much difference a little florescent orange can do to freshen up a tired cluster. ~JH |

Finding a stepside step bumper isn't getting any easier.

Got my console finished. Stared out brown and is now parchment. I used one of PikemUps cup holders.

Must be, I shipped my 80 pounder to the east coast. The shipping was more than the bumper.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Found power steering leak at pressure line. Had to cut the line at pump fitting so I could use two box end wrenches at the pump fitting to loosen. Happy that I did not have to remove the pump and no damage done-waiting for new pressure hose-and hope it fits! 69 K/10

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Rallys add to any truck. Now take that front bumper off and run it over to Alberta Plating and get Monty to chrome it and that will make your truck standout. Just kidding but it does make difference.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I had Alberta plating quote. They wanted $600 to chrome it. I can get a repop for a third of the price....This is my dilemma... Too bad they chard so much to dip it in chrome. I will likely have to go with an LMC repop...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
He did mine front and back , on the pictured truck, for 400 in January 2015. I gues he is the only one doing chrome in the West so he has bumped his prices. If you get a repop dont tighten the bolts too much or it'll bend the bumper

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just got in from working on the truck.
1). Removed thermostat, going to clean it up and test it....it may not be stuck. 2). Cleaned the old gasket from the water neck. 3). Cleaned out the water neck a bit and even vacuumed the area inside. 4). Figured out what fittings are needed to use the water hose to flush out the water jacket. |
