That truck belongs in Ontario. Too nice for the west to appreciate. Nice job! Have a good one eh.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I've been ready to install the engine cross-member for weeks pending another hand. Last night I was feeling a little alone, go figure my son shows up out of the blue. We maint. his car, then slapped on the cross-member.

Hurry up and wait is the theme. Can't finish my engine pending the painter for my oil pan. Can't install the rear leafs pending new bolts, and I didn't account for reusing the U-bolt plates, pending powder coat. Can't do the front suspension because new drop spindles come unfinished.

Always plenty to do however, methodically adding what I can to the frame, parts org. So many parts. PARTS REDUCTION ........I'm reusing most of the original hardware, no fun chasing them down.

Very nice! Nothing like some bling to help the build along.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Got my engine running after a year of working on it and the rest of the install. Fixed a transmission cooler line leak, and two fuel line leaks. The thing sounds good. On the bad side it looks like I have a seeping leak on the pinion seal, which I put in when I rebuilt the rear. That means taking the rear completely apart again to replace the seal, and I have the new bed wood installed. Bummer.

How did you set the pinion preload without pulling it apart?

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

What you do is : mark the position of the pinion nut relative to the shaft and re torque it to *exactly* the same position it was before you took it apart .

Those who lack experience will claim it's not the same and won't work etc. , those who've done it and never had a comeback, leak or failure over decades and 100,000's of thousands of miles, know better .

Now the trucks running I could catch up on needed repairs on the Woodshed. Burning all the repair scrap wood. I did have it out to local show on Fri. and to do a full detailing on it. All the glass and the dash.

Finally got time to recover my seat and get it back in the truck this weekend. It sure is a lot more comfortable to drive with the seat recovered.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Trouble shooting the fact that I have zero rear braking with a new master cylinder and proportioning valve. Have a hard petal even with the left rear bleeder cracked open, and no flow. Think I must have a bad proportioning valve. Got another one ordered, and that doesn't fix it I will look at the rear rubber hose next. The valve trip rod is in the middle and the light is not on, and I have verified that the brake light works. Going to charge the ac tomorrow while I wait on brake parts.

3757chevy, the second half of the driveline is short do too the yoke to axle centerline being longer than the 12bolt,but yes I have herd of those.

Ol bluek20, the trans is a 4spd manual doesn't have a pan. I thought it might be an sm420 or sm465 but doesn't look like any identifing features match with one of those

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Haven't posted progress in awhile because I've just been slowly taking it apart. But I'm planning to finally get the frame fixed and the body media blasted tomorrow, so I got the bed onto a dolly this past weekend, and tonight I got the doors disassembled and taken off, and the windshield and rear window off. I tried to do Lockdoc's old method where you stuff the garden hose under to kind of hold the seal out, but my seal is rock hard so it wasn't happening. Had to cut it. But I got it all out! Now it's ready for blasting and then I'll be painting for a week or so!
