Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Gas tank and rear glass out. Remaining weather stripping removed. Only thing left before removing the cab is the gauge panel and undoing the bolts.
Then, on to the rest of the frame cleanup and then tearing it down for painting and suspension rebuild. Steven

I was just thinking, who ever put that body on that 84 frame ( mounting was crude), but they lifted the complete body in one piece and installed it. the doors had never been off before. the hood had been removed at one time in it's life as the bolts were not orig. the fenders, inner fenders nor grille or rad support had ever been taken off. one always wonders if it was a mechanical wonder or just a fluke happening through ignorance. ron |

was that an engine hoist that you used to lift the body?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I found a lower radiator hose for the truck. Had to cut to fit but it worked great. Now I just have to find a top one.

I adjusted my column shifter so I don't get stuck in first gear anymore.

yes that is an engine hoist that I used I used a double 2 x 8 tied to the roof thru the frt door opening and a 2 x 12 (stuff that was laying around), put over the top of the 2 x 8's at the front and secured with plumbers hanging strap at the rear( quite a few screw at the back top). I needed almost 36" to clear and you will more than likely run out of lift capacity with that lift. you will see in the picture where I inserted a piece of 6 x 6 for a little more lift( nothing like living dangerously). for that last height adjustments on the corners , I just used a jack-all.. I did do the lift in stages between frt and rear. all in all it was a piece of cake and you can do it all by yourself ron |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
You can also put eye bolts in the cab mount holes and run chain or rope to the hoist and lift it. Just use really big washers so the weight is distributed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Gave the old girl a nice pat on the dash for getting us there and back. Little 4 day camping trip with my wife. Put on close to 500 miles, she ran like a charm
Oh yeah, rained just about the whole time, man that trailer is small!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Had a new radiator top pipe built to replace the original. I got that installed and started the truck back up today. After filling the new radiator with water and anti freeze. Looks like I have some carburetor issues going to have to dig into that further. Also having problems with the steering column shaft. I'm going to have tear into that and figure out what's wrong. It's part of the power steering that I put in. The splines didn't match up properly or something I don't know really yet what. I could turn the steering about a quarter of the way than it just stopped.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Still working on a carb rebuild and exhaust redo....tried to fire her back up today, but the starter took a crap and I ran out of time to keep working on her before work. Hopefully tomorrow I can get her fired up and driving again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Sorry, no pictures but I did install new wipers after a 0500 rainstorm incident on the way to work. Luckily, my cool under pressure and superior driving skills saved me from certain doom.....ok, I really just pulled over until the rain shower ended but hey, it sounded good right?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got her all running and almost tuned in, then with only an hour and a half to go before I had to come to work, my buddy and I decided to go ahead with a swap out to my new HEI distributor. Unfortunately, the battery died and the power went out while we were trying to get her dialed in. So for now she sits, hopefully the power is back on in the morning so I can stop by the shop and plug in the charger on my way home to bed. Should be driving tomorrow night!
Teaser pic....and yes, once I am all done I am going to clean up the engine bay. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Went to the quarter car wash today and hosed the winter crud off the firewall, then came home and gave the truck a bath getting ready for the Goodguys show tomorrow and Saturday. Normal temps for the show are mid-80’s to low 90’s. Saturday is suppose to be 100. I’m not a hot weather person, but at least we’ll have a shade canopy and some chairs with us.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Spent yesterday digging thru trucks in an unmarked graveyard. Scored a tach dash from a 1964 ( trying to figure out a way to get it in my 63), posi rear end out of a 72, factory power brake booster, tilt column from a 74 van ( less the shifter lever )and a much needed p/s hood hinge. I found a pair of bucket seats in a carry all that I left, I'm thinking I might go back for those. I also grabbed this tachograph do hicky ... not sure what it is but it looked cool, it has a tach and a clock in it.
