Some pictures I took yesterday while test driving after I finished adjusting the steering box. It was scary sloppy for a 54k mile truck but 10 minutes with a 5/8" wrench and 3/16" allen wrench took care of it. Should have a mess of parts showing up this week to get it back to a reliable driver. For now I'm just going to clean it up and lower it. I should make a fun summer cruiser until I decide what direction to go with it.

this may be a dumb question, but how did you adj your steering box? mine alittle loose too. love your truck, looks like a good solid one to start with

It's not too bad. Jack the truck up to get the wheels in the air, center the wheels, loosen the lock nut on the set screw on the top of the steering box, tighten the set screw until it bottoms out and then back it out a 1/4 turn and re-tighten the lock nut.

There's a long and drawn out process to set the steering box the technically correct way but this is a way I was shown a long time ago. I've been told it may cause the box to wear slightly faster but to me it doesn't matter since this truck won't get driven very often so it will still last a long time and I will most likely completely change the suspension/steering after a few years.

Thanks for the compliments on the truck. It will roll out of the garage fairly soon looking a little different. Discount Tire had a pretty decent deal going on so I picked up a set of 17x8, 17x9.5 MB Old Schools with 255/50/17 and 275/50/17 NT450's. I have most all of the stuff to lower it and everything to rebuild the front suspension is on the way.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

Thanks busted! I don't as of now on my work computer. I will get some up soon.
Trying to decide on wheels and tires. Would like to do the 20x10 and 20x8 deal.

I have a an issue with the chains on the gate. They don't have any plastic on them. What have you stepside guys done in the past? Or should I just order some pastic coated chains?

Thanks and nice rides in here for sure!

Michael

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

Seen folks use seatbelt latches on the inside of the bed and gate. Could go to the local hardware store and possibly get some clear rubber hose that will slide over the chain.

Hey thanks. Yea I tried the clear hose, but it is so stiff the chain make a nice loop look. HA. Not really diggin it. The seat belt thing sounds cool.

I used the seat belt trick with GM buckles on my first rig. It was really cool actually. When I used chains I just got the kit from LMC. The hose was not too stiff and it allowed the neat coil of the chain. I would recommend it if you want the original appearance.

Love your truck Carlos. Easily my favorite on this site. I have a red '83 I am sticking a twin-turbo LQ4 in, and have quite a few questions for you about the aesthetics of your truck, from how its lowered, what type of brackets for the seats and the back bumper. Can't pm you, but I also don't want to clog this thread.
