Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

I did considered a revers hinge like covettes but that is like opening a can of worms. All the modding work and time to pull it off out wighs the benefits so that idea was canceled. I am also considering this design fabing the brakets is easy its finding a hinge that looks good is dificult factor

Dude! That's a heck of a wake up call. Sorry to hear and see the damage. I hate it when something like that stops me from working on my project
I love those machined hinges.

I found these pics there out of a blazer built by the guys from Fesler. I called and asked a few questions they used a hinge from a mercedes benz.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

i was planing on using the inner fender tubs but after installing them they cover all the goods so i was debating weather or not to install them. I wanted some protection from debri flinging into the painted fire wall and engine so i cut the fenders up to where the tire meets. The bling bling is still exposed and i have some protection

Nice idea for the front tubs.

I would weld a piece of 1/4" round rod to the edge to stiffen it up and make it less of a knuckle buster.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Hinges came in and at a glance it seems that the retro fit may be possible, geometry is similar tho I noticed that the new billet hinges when fully extended sit higher. Quality and finish are superb I will start this operation tomorow hopefully its done by the weekend but with cruise night in town this Friday I will loose a days work.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

I also had a change of plans of how the radiator will mount so i broke off and sanded smooth with sergical precission the angles i had tigd. I was nervous about the possibility of damaging this expensive unit but it all workd out well

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Nice job removing the brackets.

Make sure you use some rubber isolators of some kind so the radiator can move & expand independent of the core support. Rigidly mounting aluminum to steel will end badly. They flex differently and expand differently due to temp changes.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

started the work on the hinges, I did the layout and the hinge did not clear over the firewall so i had to notch the corners on the firewall, later I will box them. I placed the hood in position crawled in the engine area and markd and punched the holes for the fenders and the top ones for the hood. hood and hinge were not flat-level so i had to cut a bump on the hood so the hinge would be flat on. Process is slow but thats just how it is when doing metal work. Il post sum pics later.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Should'a just waited a bit... I am having hinges custom built for my '77 & the shop doing it will be able to reproduce them if required. Still though, it's looking killer man - love all your work!
