Re: The Project Havoc....
Heim joints on the rear suspension, that includes the trailing arms, boxed frame, e-brake cabel, side windows, better neutral sfety switch, supposedly the front glass, side reflectors, (i do not understand that one), and some other stuff. That is the start i believe.

Re: The Project Havoc....
I will be honest, I am at my last straw about this inspeciton crap, i build it good, strong and safe, they hit me on this piddle crap, heck over 3/4's of the vehicles on the road today are far worse than mine, have 600 times the miles on them and run worse. but NO, they hit me. it is depressing, i am not sure how i am gonna handle spring this year with no truck, could be bad. I just hope all works ou t and things go my way, I am currently in the process of selling stuff off out of my garage, and gonna sell one of my trucks that a friend gave me for a DD when i needed help the most, he told me to sell it and use the money for HAVOC, it is far more important that the other truck, Thanks Cory!!!!!! if I can do all this, i will have enought to redo the fram, and get it powdercoated!!!! things have a way of working out, but someone has a very strange sense of humor about it somedays. Oh well. nite guys.

Re: The Project Havoc....
I know it isn't the same, but, years ago I fixed a LIGHTLY wrote-off olds cutlass for myself; it failed the inspection because of a rock dent in a rear shock!!! It had 60k on it! You should've seen the pos the dude that failed my car was driving!
I've gotta go through an out of province inspection with my Blazer (from sask!), hope it goes less bumpy than your experience.

just so very very very very wrong. as previously stated, there are SOO MANY pos' on the road today that have no place there. at an accident scene the other day, dude had bungee straps holding his hood in place, he calmly told us if he does over 60km/h it starts to lift....
and they come down on you... brutal. "WE THE PEOPLE DO NOT ACCEPT!!" |

Re: The Project Havoc....
James, we have a car show coming up this weekend in Boise and I am also in the process of assisting a returning Iraqi combat vet that two of our local LEO very wrongly abused and physically injured but I will go to work and see what I can find for you, I was a member of SEMA some years back. Hoss, Im a 63 year old Nam vet and very upset with the current state of affairs not only here in the USA but in your country too my youngest sis lives in Lethbridge and I lived in Bellingham for many years so Im much aware of the arbitrary so called rules, regulations and crap they stuff down our throats with no reasonable explanation other than "its the law" well fortunately again "We the People" do have options . I wont go into that here!

Re: The Project Havoc....
SGI wants to ban ALL modifications to a vehicle, primarily because of those little 4 cylinder kids cars with the huge fart can muffler racing around on the streets. But the have not updated the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act to reflect this, most of the things they are complaining about on your truck are covered in here.
http://www.publications.gov.sk.ca/details.cfm?p=1588 I can't believe some of the things they want you to change!! The boxed frame? Page 29 of their own vehicle equipment regulations state that modifications to the frame of vintage vehicles is allowed as long as it properly supports the vehicle and its load without distortion. How is boxing the frame affecting this? The original frame hardly supports these trucks without distortion! Side markers are not required prior to January 1, 1972. And there is nothing about DOT approved fuel cells either. Anyway its pretty much all covered maybe SGI should look at this as whoever is complaining about your truck clearly hasn't. There is a lot of crap on the road targeting safe vehicles like this that only see limited mileage anyway really sucks. |

Re: The Project Havoc....
Just so everyone knows, that regulations act of 87, they DO NOT go by it, it is just there to kinda show some rules!!!! as a builder we honestly have no idea what we can and can not do, I have found out that they do not want us to do anything to our vehicles, well if that is the case i am gonna make them go to the dragstip and pull all of the race cars that are street legal off the road, and go to the car shows and pull alll of them off of the roads, they state that asa soon as a vehicle has been modified, and I take this as one little thing from stock that the vehicle now has to follow the safety standards of todays vehicles and pass the inspections, heck, half of our vehicles out there dod not even come close to what the new vehicles have on them for standards, does it kill them that we are trying to make them safer for the streets, what is gonna happen when all of us leave out vehicles in the garage and there is gonna be no more car shows becvause we are all scared of brining them out for fear of being pulled of of the roads, well there goes all those families sundays to go and do something and the general public has no idea why!! It kills me to work there and know that I have to abide by these J#rks that think they are god!!!! I try to do things to the best of my knowledge and the safest way possible, but for some reason that just kicks my arse!!!
Ok, in their regulation books it states that on vintage vehicles, windows must comply with a dot, ansi or otherwise safety glass, mine do both, but it does not say athe ansi on it, but it does say the safety tempered glass, what a load of bull, they want me to change my 600 dollar windows because of that, so I asked where do i get such windows, they had no reply, half of our old vehicles out there you can not get glass for now a days!!! The side markers, they claim that as soon a s a vehicle has been modified it is no longer a vintage vehicle, therefore it now needs side markers or reflectors. Frames, they say that they can be modified on a vintage vehicle, what they do not tell you is that as soon as you modify your existing frame, or build one, or build anything for the suspension, it is to go to an engineeering firm that can put it in their programs and certify that it is safe, I understand, but how about the average guy that can not afford $5000 dollars to do this!!!! yes 5 grand. And this engineering firm they use, isthe ony one they will accept, hmmm monopoly or something!! Heim joints are not legal, you are allowed only bushings, crap, half of the drag cars out ther ehave them one and dirve around the street with them!!! Funny thing is, when they went over my entire truck, the one thing that should be on it for safety reasons, is my e-brake cable, which i do not have. They tried telling me that I needed a rear bumper, it states in their own books that trucks that pull under 10000 pounds do not require this, ie half tons. I could go on and on, this is it for now, i will have more soon. Later guys.

Re: The Project Havoc....
how far does youre work is removed from the stateline , and do they have the same rules there
the rules you describing sound a lot like wat we have here in the netherlands i picked up the idea to make a twin of the truck but as stock as needed to comply to the rules and drive the modified one , its extencive but might be cheaper than wat you need to pay for modifying youre own truck to comply with the rules it doesnt need to be perfect just comply to the rules and have the same vin number (dont tell anyone its a secret)

Re: The Project Havoc....
Hey James.
Sorry to hear that you have been singled out like this. Sounds like SGI is trying to make an example of you. There is a lot of stuff like that going on in Manitoba as well and I have heard many stories. All I can say is don't take it quietly. It's been stated here many times already but I have to say it as well, it sucks when we take a vehicle and upgrade it's structure drivetrain, safety systems etc. to exceed the mfg. of the time and then get slammed for it. It's down right disheartening everytime I hear this. Keep up the good fight. Richard

Re: The Project Havoc....
Heim joints aren't legal? I'm pretty sure there are kit cars that use those in their suspension, it looks to me like some of the Factory Five cars use them and they advertise them as they 'fully comply with Canadian law'.
Maybe you should register it as a 'kit truck', not a 68 GMC. It's funny they say they don't use the vehicle standards act of 1987 even though it was just update in 2009, and can't cite the references for these 'other' regulations. One might almost think they're making it up as they go |

I do not care anymore. ANd btw Cid636, you just gave me some fighting amunnition, Factory Five Roadsters are legal in Canada, they pass all Canadian vehicle laws, and they use Heim Joints, Wahahahaha. Take that!!!

I can't believe it. Just went through this entire thread. I did not expect it to go the way of "DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY". Just when it looks like you've won, a train wreck. I hope you can work out the inspection issues. Havoc is too special to get sidelines by a bunch of Barney Fifes.
