Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

well, I got very little shop time and ended up working the "real job" on some OT. No breaks for me until next mon-tues...

I did unsuccessfully attempt to remove the stock bushings from the upper arms. Thought I'd consider using them but now it will be these with custom ID inserts instead:

...and del-spheres and threaded ballistic bushings for the lower.

Thanks guys. Slow progress lately. Working too much... Got all the bushings here and some other bits being machined for the arms. Should be bending some tubes soon!

Long break, I know... I have one upper arm mocked up and I'm in the process of building the jig for the lowers. Four days off starting this Sun so there WILL be an update!

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Long overdue update!

When we last left off there was a UCL in a jig...

Which was replaced by a shorter version (just mocked up in pic):

LCA's turn:

Ready to connect the dots:

In place...

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Spindle/rotor on. Mocked this up with the coilover too (not shown). All clears with plenty of steering (rack travel will be the limiter). This is as narrow as I could possible go without the UCL hitting the coil perch.. Still need to make the lower coilover mount.

Tucked in where it belongs:

That's it for tonight. Should get it all final-welded tomorrow and start on the other side. Then on to the rear coilover mounts and she'll be sitting on all fours again

Wow!!!! So after about 2 weeks of reading I've managed to get to the update of ONE of your builds.... The 'Hoe is looking great, and I have no idea about the Sunbeam as a vehicle, but it looks like it would be one wild ride once this is rolling and steering and stopping and all. Very nice work on everything you do, your concepts are amazing! Keep up the good work and congrats on the shop however long ago you moved into it...

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Thanks guys Feels good to be back at it. Though I have done a little here and there over the last several weeks. Those machined parts (tapered hole for lower BJ, press-fit hole for upper, and turned down alignment pins) caused the bulk of the delay...

The upper arms are 1x.120" and the lowers are 1x.156" providing a .688" ID; perfect for tapping with 3/4-16.

Back to the shop!

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

The original brackets that the upper A arms mount to seem to be a weak point compared to the strength of the components you have replaced or built. Do you think they will hold up under hard cornering?
