Scuzzy creek FSR


wife does not like Scuzzy rd, carved into the side of the mountain with a drop from 1000-3000 ft down

getting up a little higher, prob a few thousand ft down to the Fraser river now...

someone went thru a lot of work clearing this slide up...


...yet a couple miles further in and it starts deteriorating again....big cross ditches... dragged my hitch threw here

That was actually on the back way we took from Montrose Colorado to Moab. It's called Old 90 and really is nothing but 40 miles of dirt to within a few miles of the border to Utah. That's looking south to peaks near Durango and Cortez. This was a really neat road with multiple changes in elevation and eco-systems. Only problem was the cloud of dust leading off of Larry's truck didn't lend to good shots in some areas so I didn't break out the camera or phone.

We had talked about taking a different route if we had more time as there is a new off road trail system linking the two towns that opened last year. The Rimrocker trail from all reports I read really needs 2 days due to the terrain. We didn't have the time to spend on it so we cannonballed it on a more tame but faster route as we had another member of our group to meet in Moab for dinner.

Thanks! It's nothing special. Just a 69' longhorn I picked up out of a scrapyard after it sat for 12 years. The camper is a Northwest coach, I'm guessing around 60-69? I just picked it up a few weeks ago. Going to use it and work on it as I go.

i like it, very period correct looking unit
my boss used to have a longhorn as a sheet metal truck. was fun to drive, would hop off the line with the factory No Spin. the front end sheet metal now resides on his hot rod '69 c10 shortie...

last feb (pg 23) went up the east side of Harrison lake. was just waiting for the snow to lift, then was going to do the Shovel Creek rd, a very rough, remote back way into Nahatlatch valley.
i think i also mentioned how we get a lot of yahoo's from the big city out here acting like morons, well they were at it again. we had mapped out and planned our Shovel Creek run all week just to watch it go down the tubes....or....up in flames....literally, when the yahoo's lit up over 300 acres of the mountain. even more stupid, the firefighters had to stop on the way to the fire to put out 3 un-attended fires when other yahoo's were evacuated from the area....so of course fire officals have closed off the area


the fire started around Bear creek and has spread towards Silver creek and up the mountain, these areas where i was last feb. wonder what it will look like when the fire is out...

so we decided to take the wifey's truck up the Coquihalla to Rickey lake, last time we were there was camping 3 yrs ago. we have been hit with a pretty intense heat wave last few days (for up here..) anywheres from the high 80's to right around 100, which has led to over 200 fires in the last week...and a campfire ban- bummer, holidays coming up in a couple weeks.
the Coke is ringed by some big fires right now, making it very smoky and smelly. we ran into a forest ranger and he said 125 fires started the day before, and be ready to leave the Rickey area just in case.

stopped at this nice little spot- for about 36 seconds, then the skeeters latched on to us...even dawg was like lets get outta here

i have been letting my son drive off and on for a few yrs now. he will be a teen in 4 more months. free's up dad's time...



dont freak, the last 2 pics are just staged. that's my wife in the pass seat, and my beer is just an empty bottle i picked up out of the ditch....
he's actually quite a good driver, has been riding a quad since he was 4. had no problems with narrow bridge....

wind came in on the way home and cleared out a lot of the smoke. downside is the wind aint helping the firefighters out...

Great pics Dawg. Shame about the fire. That bear isn't too far away! Blackies have killed two folks up here this summer already. Very abnormal.
