Chassis work is incredible guys!.... very nice job! ]
Ive got a friend that is doing a bunch of fab-work for CDF right now. I know our firefighters would love to have a fleet of trucks looking like this!!!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We hope so Kim. Kinda tall in the last pic, it sits a fair amount higher with the bed off the chassis...we're making bets over here on how much this is going to end up weighing.
Quote:
While welding/smoothing some seams on the front of the bed, we had to torch just a few more holes.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Got the bed and scissors cleaned up...knocking off dingleberries, and a bit of smoothing.
We hauled those to the sand blasters today for both cleaning and painting...blast to white metal, primer, and heavy gloss black paint (industrial level, these guys do alot of oil field stuff). We decided to go ahead and prep and paint the rear of the frame next (more de-dingleberrying and smoothing right now), in preparation for the finished bed coming back...maybe within this next week.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Yea, the blasters did a great job.
While we're waiting on the bed to be painted (should pick it up Sat.), my son smoothed some glaze into the low spots and laid the first coat of black onto the rear frame rails...

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Picked up the bed and scissors today, very happy with the work done.
Primer coat+couple coats of black+clear coat= We'll let it sit for a couple days to fully cure before fooling with it too much.

Really nice! Look at that shine. The company you used must put out nicely refurbished oil field equipment.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
They exceeded my expectations. They hand brushed paint into every seam...on top and underneath, caulked/sealed the open seam between the headache rack and bed, before spraying the first of a couple coats of an industrial polyurethane gloss black...and then clear-coated everything. Cost was very reasonable.

Not a body shop...Freeman's sand blasting and paint, off of S.E.25th and I35.
My boy and I kinda got a wild hair tonight and popped some holes in the hood...we're digging it though!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Cool....matches the theme of the build. Depending on body color, chrome trim rings would look good.

Thanks Kim...we weren't sure of the look when we started, but really like it after the fact. That would be kinda cool, but not our flavor

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Picked up some parts from the powdercoater today...inner door panels and gin poles/brackets. Started putting the bed back together, we like this step of bolting parts on for the last time...

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Man, the bed turned out really, really nice. So who's going to put the first scratch in it? The frame looks nice too. The holes in the hood look good. Put some lights on the inner fenders so there's a glow out of the holes. Amber should do it. Haha

Thanks DW, and yea, that first scratch sucks! Glad we got that out of the way on the trip home!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
The powdercoat looks really good. Even with first scratch I would hesitate to use the nice looking bed. Of course can always paint it again.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We've been joking about having to use it too. Can't scratch it, or get it muddy, or haul anything...good thing we built a 4X work truck!
